Main Growing Regions
Arabica coffee is suitable for growing on mountain slopes at altitudes of 800-1800 meters. Too high altitude results in sour taste, while too low altitude results in bitter taste. Most Arabica coffee is planted in dry, hot valley regions around 1100 meters altitude, resulting in moderate acidity with rich and mellow aroma. Many areas in Yunnan have unique environments suitable for growing Arabica coffee, producing excellent quality beans.
The main growing areas are distributed in regions such as Lincang, Baoshan, Simao, Xishuangbanna, and Dehong. Baoshan has an average temperature of 21.5°C, reaching up to 40.4°C, with basically no frost year-round, making it a recognized premium Arabica growing region. The Arabica coffee cultivated here is renowned both domestically and internationally for being rich but not bitter, aromatic but not overpowering, with small, uniform particles, rich mellow aroma, and fruity notes. International coffee organization tasting experts have rated Yunnan coffee as comparable to Colombian wet-processed Arabica, ranking it among the world's high-quality coffees.
Variety
Typica, this classic premium coffee variety, is the main cultivar for this batch of coffee. Typica coffee originates from southeastern Ethiopia and Sudan and is the most widely cultivated coffee variety in the Western Hemisphere. The plants are relatively robust but not tolerant to strong light, with higher yields in Hawaii. Typica's top leaves are bronze-colored, earning it the name "red-top coffee."
Growth Period
Yunnan Arabica coffee trees begin bearing fruit at 3-4 years of age.
Coffee is a short-day plant. Coffee exhibits multiple flowering phenomena with concentrated blooming periods. Arabica coffee in Yunnan flowers from February to July, with peak flowering from March to May. Coffee flowering is greatly influenced by climate, particularly rainfall and temperature. Coffee flowers have a short lifespan of only 2-3 days. Arabica coffee generally begins blooming between 3-5 AM and reaches full bloom between 5-7 AM.
Coffee fruit development takes a relatively long time. Arabica coffee fruit requires 8-10 months to mature, typically maturing from October to December of the same year. Rainfall has a significant impact on fruit development, and climatic conditions directly affect the fruit.
Yunnan Arabica Coffee
Yunnan Arabica coffee belongs to the Rubiaceae family, Coffea genus. Growing areas are mainly distributed in regions such as Lincang, Baoshan, Simao, Xishuangbanna, and Dehong. Arabica coffee originates from Ethiopia or the Arabian Peninsula.
Flavor Description
Rich but not bitter, aromatic but not overpowering, with floral notes, melon sweetness in the mid-section, and black tea finish.
Baoshan Arabica coffee, a specialty of Baoshan's Lujiang area in Yunnan, is a national geographical indication product and one of the highest quality coffees in China and even globally. The beans are uniform and full, with fresh aroma, rich fragrance, and mellow taste. They exhibit richness without being overpowering and can be compared to the world-famous Blue Mountain coffee. It enjoys global reputation for its exceptional quality: in the late 1950s, it was rated as first-grade in the London market, earning the beautiful name "Lujiang No. 1." In 1980, it was recognized as "China's Coffee Champion" at the national coffee conference.
