Baoshan Small Bean Coffee

Baoshan Small Bean Coffee is a specialty product of Baoshan Lujiang, Yunnan, and a national geographical indication product. It is one of the best coffee qualities in China and even globally. The beans are uniform and full, with a fresh aroma, rich fragrance, and mellow taste. It is rich but not strong, comparable to the world-renowned Blue Mountain Coffee. It enjoys global reputation for its unique excellent quality: in the late 1950s, it was rated as first-class in the London market and won the beautiful name "Lujiang No. 1"; in 1980, it was recognized as "the crown of national coffee" at the national coffee conference.

15g of coffee, medium grind (Fuji ghost tooth blade 4 grinding), V60 filter cup, 88-89°C water temperature. First pour 30g of water for 27 seconds of blooming, then inject to 105g and stop. Main Growing Regions

Small bean coffee is suitable for growing on mountain slopes at altitudes of 800-1800 meters. If the altitude is too high, the taste becomes sour; if too low, it becomes bitter. Most small bean coffee is planted in dry-hot valley areas at around 1100 meters altitude, resulting in moderate acidity, rich fragrance, and mellow smoothness. Many areas in Yunnan have unique environments suitable for small bean coffee cultivation, producing excellent quality small bean coffee.

The main planting areas are distributed in Lincang, Baoshan, Simao, Xishuangbanna, Dehong and other prefectures. Baoshan has an average temperature of 21.5°C, reaching up to 40.4°C, with basically no frost throughout the year, making it recognized as the best origin for small bean coffee. The small bean coffee cultivated here is famous at home and abroad for being rich but not bitter, fragrant but not strong, with small and uniform beans, rich mellow aroma, and fruity notes. International coffee organization tasting experts have evaluated Yunnan coffee as similar to Colombian wet-processed small bean coffee, ranking it among the world's high-quality coffees.

Variety

Typica, this classic high-quality coffee variety is the main cultivated variety for this batch of coffee. Typica coffee originates from Ethiopia and southeastern Sudan, and is the most widely cultivated coffee variety in the Western Hemisphere. The plants are relatively robust but not tolerant to strong light, with higher yields in Hawaii. The top leaves of Typica are reddish-brown, earning it the name "red-top coffee."

Growth Period

Yunnan small bean coffee typically bears fruit in 3-4 years.

Coffee is a short-day plant. Coffee has the characteristics of multiple flowering and concentrated flowering periods. Small bean coffee in Yunnan flowers from February to July, with peak flowering from March to May. Coffee flowering is greatly influenced by climate, especially rainfall and temperature. Coffee flowers have a short lifespan, only 2-3 days. Small bean coffee generally begins to bloom early in the morning from 3-5 AM, and fully blooms from 5-7 AM.

Coffee fruit development takes a long time. Small bean coffee fruit takes 8-10 months to mature, generally maturing from October to December of the same year. Rainfall greatly affects fruit development, and climate conditions directly affect the fruit quality.
