Coffee Grounds: Creative New Uses for Your Leftovers
Nowadays, many people enjoy drinking coffee, but few realize that every 350ml cup of freshly ground coffee produces about 20 grams of coffee grounds. When coffee grounds are discarded, landfilled, or incinerated along with other waste, they not only increase waste processing costs but also exacerbate the Earth's greenhouse effect. However, the social organization Xingeng Workshop, located in "Changhe Public Welfare Workshop" in Shuangta Street, Gusu District, has developed its own clever method for handling coffee grounds.
Coffee Grounds Graffiti Contest
Recently, Xingeng Workshop collaborated with the youth league members of Shuangta Street to organize a "Coffee Grounds Graffiti" contest. They first carefully composed and outlined their designs on white paper with pencils, then applied white glue along the lines using small brushes, evenly sprinkled coffee grounds, and finally gently pressed and shook the paper to let the unattached coffee grounds fall off. Thus, a simple coffee grounds sand painting was born.
Although it may sound quite easy, creating a good painting is not simple. First, the glue lines must be applied evenly, and coffee grounds must be applied immediately after the glue to avoid reduced adhesion when the glue dries. Of course, the most important aspect is having good creative composition.
Practical Uses for Coffee Grounds
Everyone found the coffee grounds sand paintings quite interesting. In just two hours, more than 20 coffee grounds sand paintings came to life on paper. According to reports, besides artistic creation, coffee grounds can also be used for fertilizing potted plants, as well as absorbing odors and providing powerful cleaning in kitchens and bathrooms. They hope to use the coffee grounds sand painting activities as a platform to help more people understand the various wonderful uses of coffee grounds and practice these applications in their daily lives.
