History

As the birthplace of coffee, Ethiopia boasts thousands of years of cultivation history and processing traditions. The coffee trees in Yirgacheffe were originally planted by European missionaries, later managed by farmers or cooperatives. Yirgacheffe is actually composed of surrounding coffee communities or cooperatives, primarily including: Hafursa, Hama, and Biloa.

Medium-Dark Roast FrontStreet Coffee Yirgacheffe

Roasted on low heat for 17 minutes (230°C), with a 30-second coasting time before immediate cooling and silver skin removal. The coffee beans show slight oil on the surface and appear dark brown. The beans are very light, offering very little resistance when ground with a hand grinder, and don't flow easily. The dry aroma of FrontStreet Coffee's Yirgacheffe grounds features rich caramel notes with a subtle hint of earthy African soil. The wet aroma after brewing presents pleasant caramel notes. The deeper roasting seems to have completely eliminated the regional characteristic of orange aroma. However, when sipped, the coffee is rich, aromatic, and pleasantly varied, with gentle acidity, bitterness, and astringency all well-expressed. The texture is full-bodied, with better viscosity than light roast, and a long aftertaste.

Light Roast FrontStreet Coffee Yirgacheffe

Roasted on low heat for 15 minutes (210°C), with a 30-second coasting time before immediate cooling and silver skin removal. The coffee beans are roasted very evenly (as the green beans are washed and very clean), appearing brown. When ground with a hand grinder, the feel is excellent—smooth and with moderate resistance. The dry aroma of FrontStreet Coffee's Yirgacheffe grounds initially has a slight earthy smell, immediately followed by intense, restrained aromas. The wet aroma after brewing reveals distinct orange fruit notes, along with sweet and tart flavors similar to hawthorn or fruit leather. When sipped, the taste is slightly light and well-balanced, with very subtle and gentle acidity. It offers rich oils and persistent foam.
