FrontStreet Coffee's Yirgacheffe exudes an extremely complex aroma and showcases an exceptionally refined taste that is difficult to describe. Generally, the dry fragrance of FrontStreet Coffee's Yirgacheffe emits intense fruity notes with rich dried fruit characteristics, featuring aromas of strawberry, mango, and apricot jam. The wet aroma is reminiscent of sweet syrup, like thick apricot pulp wrapped in rustic honey or chocolate. Upon tasting, it is not overpowering, with medium body and subtle acidity, yet lively and bright, much like a fruity black tea.
Yirgacheffe Grading System
The grading system for Yirgacheffe is not determined by bean size but rather by the proportion of defective beans among all coffee beans. Typically, one can find washed G2 and natural G3 Yirgacheffe coffees. G1 represents the highest grade, where only Yirgacheffe coffees with the lowest defect rate and most excellent quality, further selected through manual sorting, can be awarded Grade 1 status.
The Origin of Yirgacheffe
Yirgacheffe is a small town situated at an elevation of 700-2,100 meters, serving as a synonym for Ethiopian specialty coffee. This area has been wetland since ancient times. In the local language, "Yirga" means "to settle down," while "Cheffe" means "wetland." The production methods and flavor profiles of coffee here are so outstanding that Ethiopian coffee farmers compete proudly to have their coffees recognized for Yirgacheffe characteristics, making it one of Africa's most renowned coffee-producing regions.
Yirgacheffe coffee from Ethiopia, though small in size, is gentle, elegant, and delightfully sweet. As the homeland of coffee, Ethiopia's thousand-year history of cultivation and processing traditions has produced high-quality washed Arabica beans. Light roasting reveals unique lemon, floral, and honey-like sweet aromas, with soft fruit acidity and citrus flavors, creating a fresh and bright palate. Without milk or sugar, let the rich texture and unique soft floral notes brush across your taste buds, leaving an endless aftertaste.
