Frontsteet Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee

Frontsteet Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee refers to coffee brewed from single-origin beans produced in Jamaica's Blue Mountain region. Most products on the market labeled with "Blue Mountain flavor," "Blue Mountain taste," "Blue Mountain blend," or "Blue Mountain style" - including pre-made coffee, ready-to-drink coffee, instant coffee, and blended coffee beans - are not authentic Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee.

Blue Mountain Coffee

Origin and Growing Conditions

Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee is grown on the Blue Mountain range in Jamaica. This mountain range is located within the coffee belt between 25 degrees north and south latitude. The fertile volcanic soil combined with the island climate provides rich nutrients and abundant moisture for the coffee, creating more opportunities for developing excellent flavors.

The coffee grown on these mountains is all of the Typica variety. This variety was introduced to the Blue Mountains for cultivation in the 18th century. After two hundred years of adaptation, Blue Mountain's Typica has developed into a disease-resistant Arabica variety that is well-suited to local cultivation and has formed delicate flavors that cannot be easily replicated elsewhere.

Quality Characteristics

This variety is characterized by large coffee bean size, good sweetness, and clean mouthfeel. Interestingly, although the same variety is grown throughout the Blue Mountain range, coffee beans cultivated below 900m altitude do not have the same flavor and quality as those grown at 910-1700m. Frontsteet Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee beans grown at high altitudes have balanced sweet, sour, and bitter flavor characteristics, with rich, substantial flavor notes and a clean, full mouthfeel.

Therefore, the Jamaica Industrial Committee (CIB) stipulates that only coffee grown in four regions - St. Andrew, St. Mary, St. Thomas, and Portland - at altitudes of 910-1700m can be called Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee. Coffee beans below 900m can only be sold as Jamaica High Mountain Coffee and Jamaica Select Coffee.

Production and Classification

The production of authentic Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee is not large, with an annual output of only 300-600 tons. To ensure consistent quality each year, Blue Mountain Coffee is classified into Premium Blue Mountain Coffee and Select Blue Mountain Coffee based on bean size, cupping results, and defect rate. Premium Blue Mountain Coffee is further divided into Blue Mountain No. 1, Blue Mountain No. 2, Blue Mountain No. 3, and Blue Mountain Peaberry.

Blue Mountain No. 1: Size 19/18/17 screen, defect rate less than 3%;

Blue Mountain No. 2: Size 16 screen, defect rate less than 3%;

Blue Mountain No. 3: Size 15 screen, defect rate less than 3%;

Blue Mountain Peaberry: Single round beans of size 10 screen, defect rate less than 3%.

Among these, Blue Mountain No. 1 is naturally the most superior and highest-grade Blue Mountain Coffee. To help consumers more intuitively understand the differences and quality of Blue Mountain Coffee, the Jamaican government has established strict and detailed standards for all Blue Mountain Coffee processing (coffee bean extraction methods), export packaging, and certification. These standards specify everything from what organic fertilizers to use during the growing period to requiring all manual harvesting, as well as 100% use of wooden barrels for export packaging.
