How to Make Milk Brick Iced Latte? Is Affogato Just Ice Cream with Espresso? What is Latte Coffee?
The season of cicadas and sparrows chirping outside the window has arrived again! It's time to bring back those popular summer coffee drinks to the menu!
Orange C, cucumber, pineapple, coconut Americanos, mint lattes, affogatos, and more are among the best-selling coffee products at various coffee shops every summer. The fact that these drinks sell so well in summer indicates they're not only delicious but also perfectly suited for this sweltering season. Although FrontStreet Coffee doesn't sell these specialty drinks in their stores, with years of coffee experience, FrontStreet Coffee can easily handle these small challenges! That's why FrontStreet Coffee will gradually share these delicious summer-appropriate coffees, allowing everyone to create café-quality beverages at home! Today, FrontStreet Coffee will share a particularly popular specialty coffee recently—a special version of affogato—milk brick latte!
A Special Version of Affogato?
Affogato is the transliteration of the Italian word "Affogato," which means "drowned"! Making affogato requires only two ingredients: espresso and ice cream! Simply pour the extracted espresso over ice cream, and a traditional coffee dessert is complete. It's not only extremely simple but also incredibly delicious!
At this point, some friends might ask: "Why is milk brick latte a special version of affogato? Based on the name, milk brick latte and affogato seem completely unrelated!"
In fact, what we call "milk brick" refers to ice cream made from milk! It's just named "milk brick" because this ice cream is shaped like a brick! This means milk brick is essentially an ice cream product! (Like this↓)
As the name suggests, milk brick latte is simply a latte coffee with milk brick added! The preparation method is quite similar to affogato, except that in addition to ice cream and espresso, milk is also included, which is why it can be called a "latte"! Now that the introduction is complete, FrontStreet Coffee will share how to prepare this milk brick latte!
How to Make Milk Brick Latte?
Although we can prepare it literally according to the name, there are some key details to pay attention to if we want it to taste delicious! First, let's introduce the ingredients we'll be using: 1 milk brick ice cream, 100g ice cubes, 120ml milk, 40ml espresso, and one coffee cup. Compared to regular iced lattes, FrontStreet Coffee chooses to use a higher coffee-to-milk ratio (1:3, while regular iced lattes use 1:4)! Because both ice cubes and ice cream will continue to melt after preparation, we don't need to use too much milk, otherwise it will easily dilute the coffee flavor. And the coffee isn't limited to espresso—any high-concentration strong coffee will work! First, let's add milk and ice cubes to the cup!
Then cut the milk brick into several small pieces and place them on the ice cubes. At this point, it's important to note that the ice cubes must be plentiful or hard enough. If the ice cubes don't have enough support, the milk brick will sink into the milk, which will accelerate the melting speed of the milk brick and change the coffee experience! (Change, not diminish~)
Next, we extract a coffee—coffee extracted from moka pots, hand presses, or espresso machines will all work! After extraction, simply pour it over!
And that's it—milk brick coffee is complete! If you have cocoa powder at home, you can also take out a strainer and evenly sprinkle some cocoa powder on top, giving the milk brick coffee more layers of flavor!
Before we enjoy it, we can use a straw to stir it in advance, allowing the ice cream and milk coffee to blend better, resulting in a richer milk flavor and a fuller body—it's truly delicious! However, friends who don't like sweetness should use less milk brick, after all, this milk brick... it's as sweet as FrontStreet Coffee! Of course, milk brick latte can be made in more ways than this! Its "components" can be freely replaced, making it extremely versatile! For example, milk can be replaced with coconut milk for a more summery feel, or higher milk concentration products like ice-blok or super milk; milk bricks can also be replaced with ice cream that better suits your personal taste preferences, not limited to just milk flavor! Anyway, use whatever you have at home—anything goes~~ (provided it's reasonable and tasty~)
