Colombian Coffee

Colombia is located in northern South America with both maritime and continental territories, connecting with Venezuela, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, and Panama. It borders the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Caribbean Sea to the north. Colombia's terrain is generally divided into western mountainous regions and eastern plains, with the west primarily consisting of the Andes Mountains and the east mainly comprising the Orinoco Plain and Amazon Basin.

Located in the tropics, Colombia's climate varies with topography. The eastern plains and Pacific coast have a tropical rainforest climate, while mountainous areas at elevations of 1000-2000 meters feature a subtropical climate, and the northwest region has a tropical savanna climate. Colombian coffee is primarily grown in the Andes Mountains, where the annual temperature averages around 18°C with annual rainfall between 2000 and 3000 millimeters. Additionally, due to its tropical location, the mountain terraces provide diverse climates, making harvest season possible year-round. Colombia possesses high-altitude mountain regions, volcanic soil, and various microclimates that offer excellent conditions for coffee cultivation.

Huila Growing Region

Colombia has multiple coffee-growing areas, mostly situated around the Andes Mountains. Due to different mountainous terrains and microclimates, each region's coffee exhibits significant flavor variations. Currently, the most renowned growing regions include Antioquia, Santander, Huila, and Nariño.

Huila Province is located in southern Colombia, comprising the southern part of the central mountain range, formed by the central and eastern ranges of the Andes. Most of the region lies in the Magdalena River Valley and is Colombia's most famous specialty coffee-producing area. This region consists of hills surrounded by mountains, with coffee cultivation at altitudes between 1200-1800 meters and temperatures generally between 17°C to 23°C. High altitude, volcanic soil, abundant water resources, and unique climate contribute to the pure, balanced, and smooth taste of coffee produced in this region. FrontStreet Coffee offers a washed-processed Colombian Huila coffee bean as an introductory selection, featuring light fruit acidity with flavors of dark chocolate, nuts, and caramel, and a sweet aftertaste.

Finca El Diviso

In the 19th century, Colombia experienced domestic warfare. After the war ended, the government began to integrate wasteland and divide it into small plots, selling them to farmers at extremely low prices to cultivate coffee and other crops. Since then, Colombia has been dominated by small coffee estates.

Finca El Diviso is one of the relatively well-known small estates, covering only 14 hectares and located in the Huila region. The founder Jose established the estate in 1996, which is currently operated by his grandson Nestor. Nestor is extremely passionate about coffee cultivation and research, continuously striving for excellence in coffee growing and processing. This dedication attracted Australian competitor Anthony, who used Finca El Diviso's Sidra coffee beans to participate in the 2022 World Barista Championship (WBC) and won the championship, bringing instant fame to Finca El Diviso and Sidra coffee beans. Currently, the estate primarily grows traditional varieties such as Caturra and Bourbon, but has also incorporated new rare varieties like Geisha, Pink Bourbon, Sidra, and Castillo.
