Latte Art Rosetta Pattern: Step-by-Step Guide with Instructions & Images
Previously, FrontStreet Coffee shared the latte art method for the "Large Heart" pattern. The status of the Large Heart pattern in latte art is like espresso in Italian coffee—it's the most fundamental and basic element. However, many latte art patterns are derived and transformed from the heart shape. Once you master the technique for creating this basic pattern, other slightly complex combination patterns become much simpler.
Today, FrontStreet Coffee will share with you a basic variation of the "Heart" shape—the "Layered Heart." The pouring technique for the Layered Heart is very similar to the Large Heart. The amount of milk and coffee fusion, the starting point, the left hand's cup movement, and the finishing action are almost identical. Therefore, as long as you can pour the Large Heart pattern well, the Layered Heart will naturally come easily.
First, FrontStreet Coffee will review the pouring process for the "Large Heart" pattern. Start by fusing until the cup is 70% full, then pour milk foam generously at the 1/4 point of the central axis while simultaneously moving the cup back with your left hand. As the heart gradually grows larger, slowly move the pouring point from the 1/4 position toward the center. When finishing, raise the milk pitcher while reducing the flow, follow the axis to the bottom of the heart, then lift the pitcher to complete.
Differences Between Layered Heart and Large Heart
After mastering the Large Heart pouring technique, FrontStreet Coffee will now explain the differences between pouring the Layered Heart and the Large Heart.
Milk Foam Thickness
When FrontStreet Coffee shared the Large Heart technique, the milk foam thickness requirements were relatively flexible—pouring from 50% to 60-80% full presented no major issues. However, the milk foam thickness for the Layered Heart must be more precise. Ideally, foam should be frothed from 50% to 60% full. If the foam is too thick, the resulting lines will be too coarse and unattractive; if the foam is too thin, the pattern will easily lose its shape, which is too risky.
Pouring Flow and Pitcher Movement
When creating the Large Heart pattern, we need to pour milk foam generously to increase convection, allowing the white foam to expand on the coffee surface. However, when creating the Layered Heart, you need to control the flow while simultaneously swinging the pitcher back and forth to create fine textured lines.
How should you swing the pitcher? You can follow FrontStreet Coffee's technique: use your thumb and index finger to fix the position, while the remaining three fingers apply force, using the pitcher handle as a pivot point. The pitcher should swing back and forth like a pendulum. With a little practice to master the rhythm, you can easily create these lines.
Layered Heart Pouring Process
Let's discuss the Layered Heart pouring process. First, still fuse until 70% full, then begin the design.同样在1/4点上注入. When creating the textured lines, because you need to swing the pitcher back and forth, it's best not to let the pitcher spout touch the coffee cup. Leave some space so that the design is less affected during pouring.
Swing the pitcher rhythmically back and forth with your right hand, while moving the cup correspondingly with your left hand. As you watch the pattern gradually grow larger, the pouring point also needs to move evenly toward the center point. When the cup reaches 90-100% full, you can rhythmically reduce the swinging amplitude until reaching a fixed point, then raise the coffee pitcher and pull toward the tail end of the heart shape to finish.
