Achieving such results in an extremely competitive circle made people feel Nayuki's mature side. However, recently, Nayuki has shown an unusually "tender" side, contrary to its usual behavior.

On May 27, a woman in Shanghai purchased a baked product - durian bread - from Nayuki (Shanghai Hongkou District White Magnolia Plaza Store) on a food delivery platform. When using it, she found that the dough inside the bread was completely pullable, suspected of buying undercooked bread. The woman subsequently applied for a refund on the delivery platform but was refused by the merchant.

The manager of the aforementioned store explained that this situation might have occurred because the oven did not reach the appropriate temperature, causing the bread to be baked rather tenderly.

Facing the store manager's explanation, the woman did not accept it and complained about the aforementioned Nayuki store on Nayuki's WeChat official account platform, and reported it to the local 12315 consumer protection hotline.

Some netizens commented that given how this incident has developed, the store manager's way of handling the matter was not mature, and should have apologized and provided a refund in the first place.

Other netizens pointed out that Nayuki's product quality is not as good as before.

Previous Food Safety Incidents

Previously, a Nayuki store in Tianjin had made headlines on Weibo for using expired milk. At that time, law enforcement officers fined the store 5,000 yuan for using expired raw materials, and its market value evaporated by over 20 billion.

This is not the first time Nayuki's food safety incidents have been reported. On April 22, the "Annual Report on the Status of Consumer Rights Protection in China (2021)" issued by the China Consumer Association specifically named and criticized Nayuki's milk tea stores for using rotten fruit.

In August 2021, Xinhua News Agency reporters went undercover at multiple Nayuki stores and discovered problems in the back kitchen including cockroaches crawling around, rotten fruit, unwashed rags, and inaccurate labels. These findings firmly exposed Nayuki's food safety problems and caused the company's stock price to be cut in half, just over a month after its listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

According to incomplete statistics from "Caijing Tianxia" Weekly, Nayuki's stores or branches have received at least 20 administrative penalties, mainly involving expired products, garbage disposal, and fire safety issues. Nayuki has paid at least 190,000 yuan in fines, of which 145,000 yuan were related to food safety. Nayuki sells the most expensive tea but has serious food safety problems, turning profits into losses.

Consumer Trust at Risk

After the food safety problems were exposed, facing public pressure, Nayuki issued an apology and closed the involved stores for rectification. However, it's likely that food safety problems will continue to appear again soon. Some netizens have pointed out how Nayuki frequently appears on trending topics.
