2022 Yunnan Coffee Bean Prices - The Surprising Reason Behind the Popularity of Yunnan Small-Bean Coffee...
The Rise of Yunnan Coffee in China's Growing Market
Coffee has become a highly sought-after commodity, with coffee beans from Yunnan province becoming an increasingly popular choice. China's coffee market is gradually expanding, and "cross-industry" ventures have emerged as one pathway to enter the coffee sector and capture a larger share of the market. However, have you noticed that more and more brands are beginning to feature their use of Yunnan coffee beans?
Recently, China Post crossed industry boundaries to open its first "Post Office Coffee." In a media interview during the opening ceremony, the co-founder of Post Office Coffee stated that all coffee beans used in their establishments are sourced from Yunnan province, emphasizing the high quality of Yunnan's coffee beans.
Torch Coffee Lab from Yunnan also participated in the Post Office Coffee project. The Post Office Coffee concept was formed around February 2021, with Torch Coffee primarily providing coffee-related industry training, product output, and operational assistance. According to public information, Torch Coffee Studio is located in Pu'er, Yunnan, focusing on services such as coffee training, information and development, coffee industry research and development, and coffee bean sales with import-export trade.
Major Brands Embrace Yunnan Coffee
Recently, there has been an increasing amount of information about Yunnan coffee, and coffee brands using Yunnan coffee beans as raw materials have been emerging like spring rain. Regular consumers of brands like Nestlé, Starbucks, and Luckin Coffee may have noticed that these brands have successively launched multiple Yunnan coffee products in recent years. Even neighboring new-style tea brands such as Heytea, ChaYanYueSe, and Mixue Bingcheng, along with some independent coffee shops, have ventured into Yunnan's mountainous regions in search of delicious Yunnan coffee.
On February 14, China Post's first Post Office Coffee location began using Yunnan coffee beans. Subsequently, on February 21, Western fast-food brand KFC launched its premium flash-brewed freeze-dried coffee "Yunnan Little Red Can" exclusively in Kunming, which would be available in over 8,000 KFC restaurants nationwide by April. Additionally, it was launched on the KFC Super App platform, contributing to the promotion of Yunnan coffee.
Yunnan Coffee's Growing Prestige and Market Value
Yunnan coffee once left people with an impression of inconsistent quality. Today's Yunnan coffee has become a source of national pride, with coffee enthusiasts even proactively asking coffee shop owners if they have coffee beans sourced from Yunnan. The public's support for Yunnan coffee is also reflected in the recent purchase prices of Yunnan coffee beans.
According to a March 5th report from Kunming by China News Service, the purchase price of commercial coffee beans in Yunnan ranged between 30 to 37 yuan per kilogram, an increase of over 30% compared to the same period last year. Premium coffee beans rose from 50 yuan per kilogram in late February this year to 68 yuan per kilogram recently. Some coffee beans with exceptional flavors and high cupping scores can even sell for 1,000 yuan per kilogram.
Factors Behind Yunnan Coffee's Success
The reasons for this spring breeze of Yunnan coffee success are partly due to rising international coffee futures prices, decreased production and increased prices from major Arabica-producing countries like Brazil and Colombia, and shipping congestion. These factors have led more and more coffee bean buyers to favor coffee beans from the Yunnan growing region.
As China's coffee industry has developed rapidly in recent years and the market continues to expand, Yunnan coffee beans are ready to take center stage on a larger platform.
