What is Flat White Coffee?
Flat White is the original name for what some call "Fu Rui Bai" - a transliteration of the term. Flat White is a coffee beverage invented in Australia, literally meaning "flat, monotonous, white coffee." It's also known as Australian White. Its composition consists of espresso, hot milk, and a thin layer of delicate milk foam.
Flat White coffee is an espresso product with a smaller proportion of milk and a larger proportion of coffee, which highlights the inherent flavor of the coffee. In contrast, latte, another milk coffee, has a larger proportion of milk and a smaller proportion of coffee, emphasizing the sweetness of the milk.
Why is Flat White Coffee So Popular?
Compared to latte and cappuccino, Flat White coffee has thinner foam and less milk, which makes the coffee flavor more prominent. Therefore, Flat White coffee is more selective in its choice of coffee beans.
FrontStreet Coffee believes that Flat White coffee better showcases the quality of coffee beans and is more suitable for expressing the flavor characteristics of the coffee's origin region. This is similar to the currently popular SOE (Single Origin Espresso), which caters to the third wave of coffee culture's emphasis on coffee origins and traceability.
If you choose a high-quality coffee bean as the base for Flat White coffee, you'll create a cup that more prominently features the coffee's inherent flavors. Conversely, if you choose a lower-quality bean as the base for Flat White coffee, its flaws will be more easily detected.
This isn't to say that Americano or latte coffee can be made with just any beans. A delicious coffee离不开 high-quality coffee beans and the roasters who understand them. Therefore, regardless of what type of coffee you're making, using high-quality, freshly roasted coffee beans is extremely important!! FrontStreet Coffee ships all coffee beans within 5 days after roasting to ensure customers can enjoy the most complete coffee flavor profile.
What Coffee Beans are Used for Flat White Coffee?
Making Flat White coffee requires an espresso base. In Australia, people make Flat White coffee using one shot of espresso with approximately 80ml of hot milk with a thin, delicate foam, resulting in a final product of about 100ml.
For making espresso, FrontStreet Coffee typically uses "FrontStreet Coffee - Sunflower Warm Sunshine Espresso Blend." This coffee bean is blended from 70% Honduras Sherry coffee beans and 30% Ethiopia natural process Yirgacheffe Red Cherry coffee beans, offering rich fermented wine aroma, vanilla cream, roasted nuts, and caramel-like flavor profiles.
For extracting a single shot of espresso, FrontStreet Coffee uses the following parameters: 12.5g of extra-fine ground coffee powder, extracted under 10bar pressure to yield 18-20g of coffee liquid, with an extraction time of 25-28 seconds.
How to Make Flat White Coffee
FrontStreet Coffee uses a 100ml cup, adds a single shot of espresso, and blends it with hot milk that has been frothed to create a thin foam. The flavor profile presents rich fermented wine aroma, with the berry acidity developing noticeable sweetness after the hot milk is added, and the aftertaste featuring the sweetness of caramel chocolate.
