Kotowa Estate Introduction
Kotowa Estate is situated in the green highlands near Baru Volcano in Panama and is one of Panama's renowned coffee estates. The region has a unique cool climate that contributes to the rich characteristics of its coffee. The Kotowa family operates five estates, with Duncan and Don K being the two most famous ones, named after their father Richard Koyner. During the harvest season, they carefully handpick fully ripe coffee cherries and use clean mountain spring water for washed processing or traditional fully natural sun-drying methods. Using modern milling equipment allows them to properly select beans, which are then traditionally dried after grinding and screening. The estate is located at an altitude of 1,700 meters, where coffee beans dry slowly under mild sunlight in cool and dry climatic conditions.
Kotowa Estate's Achievements
Kotowa Estate is one of the most well-known estates in Panama's Boquete region. In recent years, it has participated multiple times in the BOP (Best of Panama) coffee bean auctions and has received enthusiastic acclaim. In 2014, it provided a total of six coffees for auction across the four major categories of BOP. Because Kotowa Estate can bring various varieties with different processing methods to the finals, they were recognized at the "Panama Cup" awards in 2014, which is also one of the estate's success factors.
