FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Nicaraguan Coffee

Many travelers who hear about Nicaragua immediately think of the most famous waterfalls, while Nicaraguan coffee seems to have been forgotten in the world in recent years, with Nicaraguan coffee rarely seen. In fact, Nicaragua's growing conditions are no less than those of Central American countries. The coffee produced is characterized by its balanced flavor. What's surprising is that the coffee produced by small farmers, when lightly roasted, has the clean and bright characteristics of Costa Rican coffee, with delicate and soft acidity. When deeply roasted, it emits the sweet and thick, mellow and rich taste of Colombian coffee.

Nicaragua is located in the central part of Central America, bordered by Honduras to the north, Costa Rica to the south, the Caribbean Sea to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. With a total area of 130,400 square kilometers, it is the largest country in Central America. The north-central part of Nicaragua is highland; the eastern part is coastal plain, mostly jungle and swamp, with low and flat terrain; the western part is coastal lowlands, with many volcanoes and lakes to the east.

The Nicaraguan plains are hot and rainy, belonging to a tropical marine climate; the western coastal lowlands have significantly less precipitation than the eastern part, and have distinct dry and wet seasons, belonging to a tropical savanna climate; the central highlands have an average annual temperature of 18°C, annual precipitation of 1500-2500 mm, with the rainy season from May to December.

Nicaragua is mainly divided into four major producing regions: Segovias, Matagalpa/Jinotega, Boaco, and Pacific Coast.

Introduction to Famous Producing Regions

Jinotega

The name of this region and its capital both originate from the Nahuatl language "xinotencatl", meaning "city of the old". The region's economy has long relied on coffee, and it is also a major producing region in Nicaragua.
