FrontStreet Coffee - Mexican Organic Coffee Introduction

In many parts of the world, growers use pesticides to control coffee pest growth. Coffee grown in high-altitude areas that are humid and foggy is particularly susceptible to pest infestation, so growers often treat it with pesticides. Many people believe that coffee can be called organic coffee beans as long as no synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers are used during the growing period. In fact, only coffee that has been certified by a third party (other than the coffee manufacturer and purchaser) can be called organic coffee beans.

Organic Coffee Beans

Organic Coffee and Certified Organic Coffee are authorized by third-party organizations. During the growth process of coffee trees, no chemical materials, pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, or artificial food additives are used. From soil and water quality testing, planting, cultivation, harvesting, to production, all must comply with organic conditions, and the process is strictly controlled. It is high-quality coffee produced in harmony with nature, offering great benefits to both health and environmental protection.

Only a very small portion of the world's coffee is truly certified organic coffee, because this certification process takes quite a long time, approximately three years. Additionally, this type of cultivation can cause coffee production to decrease by up to 50%. Therefore, when coffee growers decide to pursue organic certification, it means they are beginning a time-consuming and financially demanding investment.

Organic coffee is cultivated without using any insecticides or other chemical agents to treat pests, diseases, or cultivation problems. Instead, natural methods are used, such as natural compost, hedging, and pruning to maintain the growth of coffee trees. In pest control, purely natural biological control methods are used, such as planting protective trees and utilizing various other natural agricultural techniques to ensure the health of coffee trees. This is because organic coffee producers actively focus on the sustainability of land, water sources, and natural ecological environments.

High-quality organic coffee is the masterpiece of heaven, earth, and people—the essence of weather, soil, and love. A coffee tree needs five years to grow before it can flower and bear fruit. One pound of coffee requires approximately 4,000 coffee beans, all harvested by hand. The coffee cherries harvested from each tree each year are only enough to produce one pound of roasted coffee beans, making it precious due to its rarity.

Reasons to Choose Organic Coffee Beans

1. Protect the next generation: Reduce the opportunity for exposure to carcinogenic chemicals such as pesticides and herbicides.

2. Prevent soil depletion: According to estimates by the Soil Conservation Association, since the use of chemicals began and plants that could nourish the soil were destroyed, soil erosion has been seven times faster than recovery.

3. Save energy: Modern farming uses more petroleum-based artificial fertilizers for planting and harvesting crops.

4. Say 'no' to chemicals: The EPA has confirmed that 60% of herbicides, 90% of fungicides, and 30% of insecticides are carcinogenic. These substances can cause cancer and birth defects.

5. Protect farmers: Protecting farmers' health is also one of society's responsibilities. We must reduce the possibility of farmers being exposed to chemical environments. In the third world, safety in pesticide use is not highly valued, gradually becoming a serious problem.

Mexico is one of the largest producers of certified organic coffee, with Chiapas in the south being Mexico's most important coffee-producing region. Bordering the Guatemalan highlands, it offers an excellent growing environment. Since 1988, the government has encouraged poor coffee farmers to increase production and expand planting areas to increase income by providing simple loans. Today, Mexican coffee is not only popular in the United States but has also begun to appear worldwide.
