FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Blue Mountain Coffee
The famous Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee has three grades: Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee, Jamaica High Mountain Supreme Coffee Beans, and Jamaica Prime Coffee Beans.
The beautiful Blue Mountain range of Jamaica
According to the standards of the Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica (CIB), only coffee beans grown on the slopes from 2,200 feet above sea level to the mountain peaks of the Jamaican Blue Mountain range can be called Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee. The beans are then screened based on their size and shape, divided into three grades: NO.1, NO.2, NO.3, plus PB (Peaberry).
Coffee produced in the Jamaican Blue Mountain region below 2,200 feet is called High Mountain Coffee; coffee grown outside the Blue Mountain range is called Jamaican Coffee. Blue Mountain Coffee is mainly distributed in five mountainous areas of the Blue Mountain range: John Crow, St. John's Peak, Mossman's Peak, High Peak, and Blue Mountain Peak.
On the Flavor and Value of Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee
Currently, with the continuous popularization of specialty coffee, more and more coffee enthusiasts are questioning the flavor of Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee and its corresponding price.
Pure Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee originates from the mother coffee tree in the Paris Botanical Garden in France. After hundreds of years of cultivation, it has remained unchanged. It can be said that Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee is expensive because of its pure lineage and heritage, allowing people to taste the flavor and traces of history within it.
Jamaica is currently the only country that still uses wooden barrels to package coffee beans. The second reason why Jamaican coffee is expensive is the Japanese, who have a special fondness for Blue Mountain Coffee. They not only made this coffee popular but also selflessly helped the local Jamaican Blue Mountain area improve coffee cultivation levels and overcome difficulties time and time again. For a long time, Jamaican Blue Mountain was monopolized by Japan, and prices naturally rose accordingly.
Because Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee is expensive, most of the Blue Mountain Coffee in China was fake in the early years. Nowadays, drinking a cup of genuine Blue Mountain Coffee in China still costs over a hundred yuan, though this depends on different circumstances.
