FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Sumatra Coffee

Mandheling Coffee: Mandheling Coffee is produced in Sumatra, Indonesia, Asia, also known as "Sumatra Coffee." It features a very rich flavor, aromatic, bitter, and full-bodied, with a hint of sweetness.

Coffee enthusiasts generally consume it as a single-origin, but it is also an indispensable variety for blending coffee.

In the era before Blue Mountain became world-renowned, Mandheling Coffee was considered the world's finest coffee. After roasting, the beans are quite large, with raw beans appearing brown or dark green, possessing a special caramel-like aroma.

The taste is mellow and rich, with a sweet-bitter character without delicate acidity, but with bitterness. Production is relatively limited, making the price slightly higher than typical coffee beans.

Mandheling Coffee is produced in Sumatra, Indonesia, Asia, also known as "Sumatra Coffee." The main producing areas include Java Island, Sulawesi Island, and Sumatra Island, with 90% being Robusta varieties, which effectively resist coffee leaf rust disease.

Among these, the "Mandheling" produced in Sumatra Island is the most famous. The finest of the premium traditional Arabica coffees grown in northern Sumatra are marketed under the names Lintong and Mandheling.

Specifically, Lintong refers to coffee grown in a small area located in the southwestern part of Toba Lake in the Lintong administrative region. Coffee smallholders are scattered across a high and undulating clay plateau covered with ferns. Lintong coffee is grown without shade,

without chemical products, and is almost entirely owned by small private growers. Mandheling is a broader designation that includes Lintong coffee and growing areas in Diari [capital Sidikalang] and northern Toba Lake under similar conditions.
