FrontStreet Coffee - Yirgacheffe Coffee Introduction

The name Yirgacheffe seems to have invaded the domestic coffee circle overnight and has been explosively popular ever since. Unexpectedly accompanying it was the sweet and sour fruit taste and jasmine flower aroma it brought.

It has noble bloodlines, originating from the birthplace of coffee beans - Ethiopia;

It is unique, breaking the traditional definition of coffee's bitter and burnt flavor;

It is like a refined lady, with a sweet and sour first love feeling that touches the hearts of coffee lovers;

How can one drink coffee, especially specialty coffee, without knowing this elegant lady?

Yirgacheffe was originally a small town in Ethiopia, located in the West Arsi administrative region. Once, only coffee beans produced from Yirgacheffe town could be called Yirgacheffe.

The earliest coffee beans produced in Yirgacheffe town were known for their lemony acidity and fresh jasmine fragrance. Unlike most coffee beans in the entire West Arsi region, which have citrus acidity and reserved egg flower fragrance, it stood out and became particularly famous.

Now, with the reorganization of administrative regions, Yirgacheffe town belongs to the Gedeo administrative region (GEDEO). Coffee beans on the market called Yirgacheffe actually refer to those produced throughout the Gedeo administrative region, with a scope far larger than the original Yirgacheffe town. With the incorporation of the former four major sub-producing areas of West Arsi (Yirgacheffe town, Kochere, Wenago, and Genena Anbeya), the flavor profile of Yirgacheffe has been greatly enriched.

Hundreds of small coffee farmers are competing with each other. First, there are cooperatives like Adado, Gotiti, Worka, and Konga from the Ethiopian Farmers Cooperative Union (YCFCU), followed by small individual farmers from towns like Jejepu, Mengesha, Belisha, and Alim, which may be unheard of. One mountain, one village, each has its own representative specialty coffee beans, with different flavors - some with juicy tropical fruit sensations, some with solid berry acidity, and some even with almond and other nutty flavors.

Today's Yirgacheffe is more like a synonym, representing a large number of high-quality specialty coffees from Ethiopia, each with its own special flavor characteristics.
