FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to El Salvador Coffee

El Salvador has six major coffee producing regions covering over 140,000 hectares. The Alotepec region is located in western El Salvador and produces coffee with excellent aroma. The Cacahuatique region lies between San Miguel and Morazán provinces, producing coffee with delicate fruit flavors and almond notes. The Chichontepec region is situated in central El Salvador, where coffee exhibits chocolate sweetness and orange fragrance. The Bálsamo-Quezaltepec region in the southwestern mountainous area produces coffee with creamy flavors, excellent concentration, and smooth texture.

The Tecapa-Chinameca region, located between San Miguel city, the Lempa River, and the Grande River, produces coffee with rich body and sweetness from chocolate and ripe fruits like cantaloupe, apple, and grape. The Apaneca-Ilamatepec region in the western mountains of El Salvador yields coffee with peach, cream, and chocolate flavors, complemented by citrus acidity and refined texture.

El Salvador, a coastal country in northern Central America, has an economy primarily based on agriculture, with coffee beans and cotton as main products. During the Spring Festival, Nicole, the North American Market Director of the Coffee Exchange team, personally visited this beautiful and passionate country to explore what makes their coffee so unique!

In El Salvador, ancient traditional mountains have now transformed into dense forests producing specialty coffee. When you visit locally, you'll see dense cherries hanging on the highest altitude slopes. By late January, the freshest crops can be harvested, including coffee fruits and other fruits.

Overall, El Salvador coffee inherits the mild qualities of Central American coffee - it's generally soft, slightly acidic, with pleasant sweetness. At the same time, it has its own characteristics: aromatic flavors with slight acidity, very smooth; pure without off-flavors, with excellent balance; the creamy chocolate-like smoothness is impressive; the dense mouthfeel gives the coffee deep flavors with a long aftertaste.
