FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Cuban Coffee

She is acclaimed as "a unique Caribbean-flavored coffee" and "a special coffee bean among island coffee beans." She features full-bodied beans, bright color, uniform taste, and a distinctive tobacco flavor.

She is the designated coffee of the Cuban Embassy and attended the 50th anniversary celebration of China-Cuba friendship. She is Cubita, with the Chinese name: Hujue Coffee.

Cubita is like an elegant princess, possessing noble, gentle, and graceful characteristics. With excellent balance, bitterness and acidity complement each other perfectly, delivering a delicate, smooth, refreshing, and elegant tasting experience. Currently, Crystal Mountain Cubita coffee has become synonymous with premium Cuban coffee.

Cubita also enjoys a high reputation in the coffee industry. Cuban Crystal Mountain coffee ranks among the top in the world. Cubita adheres to the principle of perfect coffee, focusing only on single-origin and specialty coffee. Coffee beans are harvested by hand, and washed processing is used to ensure coffee quality.

All Cubita coffee comes from the unpolluted Crystal Mountain in Cuba's high-altitude regions.

In Cuba, coffee cultivation is managed by the state. Cuba's best coffee-growing areas are located in the central mountain range. Because this region produces not only coffee but also valuable minerals such as quartz and crystals, it is known as Crystal Mountain.

Crystal Mountain is geographically adjacent to Jamaica's Blue Mountains, with similar climate conditions. Its flavor profile resembles Blue Mountain coffee and can compete with Jamaican Blue Mountain, earning Crystal Mountain the nickname "Cuba's Blue Mountain." Consequently, many coffees appear under the Cuban Blue Mountain banner, but the most authentic Crystal Mountain coffee, Cubita, is permitted to use Cuba's "Crystal Mountain Coffee" designation and has become the designated coffee of the Cuban Embassy. Currently, Crystal Mountain coffee is synonymous with premium Cuban coffee. A notable characteristic of Crystal Mountain coffee is its large beans, which display a bright green color.

The Republic of Cuba is located in the West Indies, boasting a pristine natural environment, the scenic Caribbean Sea, and the world-renowned Crystal Mountain coffee.

In 1748, coffee was introduced to Cuba from Dominica, and Cuba began cultivating coffee from then on. Cuba's fertile land, humid climate, and abundant rainfall make it a natural treasure for coffee cultivation. Suitable natural conditions provide a favorable environment for coffee tree growth, allowing coffee to thrive and develop here.

In Cuba, coffee bean harvesting is mostly done by hand. During the maturity period, coffee beans are harvested approximately every half month. During or after harvesting, people sort the coffee beans, removing immature and defective beans to ensure coffee quality. Cubans typically use two methods to process coffee beans - natural (dry) processing and washed processing. The natural method is the simplest, cheapest, and most traditional coffee processing method, involving drying coffee cherries under the sun without fermentation. The drying period typically takes about four weeks. The washed method allows more fruit flavors to enter the coffee beans, adding a robust fruity aroma to the coffee.

Currently, Crystal Mountain coffee is extremely precious. This is mainly due to two reasons. The first reason is the United States' economic sanctions against Cuba, which prohibit imports of Cuban goods. The second reason is that most Cuban coffee beans are acquired by French and Japanese markets, especially Japan, making it difficult to purchase coffee beans directly from Cuba today. Despite this, Cuban coffee still holds a status in the hearts of global coffee enthusiasts comparable to Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee.
