FrontStreet Coffee - Brazil Cerrado Coffee

As the world's largest coffee producer and the second-largest coffee consumer, Brazilian coffee holds significant weight in the world. Brazil provides nearly 45% of the world's raw coffee beans, and the length of the country's dry season can even affect global coffee prices. Brazil cultivates a wide variety of coffee types, including both Arabica and Robusta. Smooth, low acidity, slightly sweet, and balanced are the main characteristics of Brazilian Arabica coffee.

Brazil's main producing regions include Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Bahia, and Espírito Santo. These four areas account for 90% of the country's total exports. The commonly known Santos and Mogiana come from São Paulo. Cerrado and Sul de Minas in Minas Gerais, due to their higher altitudes, produce mostly premium Brazilian coffee beans. Cerrado is located in the western part of Minas Gerais, a flat plateau with elevations ranging from 750m to 1200m.

Cerrado is a renowned high-quality coffee producing region in Brazil. The main production area for semi-washed coffee is located in Cerrado, where the processing method is more refined, distinct from the typically sun-dried processing used for Brazilian coffee, instead adopting washed or semi-washed methods.

Simple Introduction to Semi-Washed Characteristics

Coffee beans are not soaked in fermentation tanks. This results in quite good acidity, sweetness, mouthfeel, and aroma. High-quality Cerrado coffee contains nutty aromas, with a taste that is more refined and clean compared to other Brazilian coffees. The aroma is moderate, with a soft and smooth entrance, ending with a slight sweet aftertaste.

The entrance brings tropical fruit and nutty almond-like aromatics, while the aftertaste carries brown rice tea flavor notes. At lower temperatures, it reveals different layers of almond sweetness, milky fragrance, and tea aroma.

Compared to beans from other Brazilian regions, Cerrado beans are particularly famous for their uniform flavor, good acidity, and sweetness. People often consider Brazilian beans as entry-level varieties for beginners, not only because of their high cost-performance ratio (making them suitable for practice without being too heartbreaking), but also because of their balanced stability from all aspects, making them easier to control. Their flavor is balanced, neither too bland nor too heavy. In summary, they are beans that perform well from all aspects and are worth trying as an entry point.
