FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Panama Geisha Coffee

When it comes to specialty coffee, many people's first reaction is undoubtedly the currently extremely popular Geisha coffee. The fundamental reason for Geisha's popularity, in addition to the unique flavor expression of its coffee variety, is more importantly, Panama's uniquely blessed land and the extremely suitable climate for coffee growth.

Some may not understand how important climate is for coffee as an agricultural crop. As a crop that depends on nature, coffee's growing environment is inseparable from factors like sunlight, precipitation, altitude, and nutrients. It can be said that the origin of coffee cultivation largely determines the taste and quality of the coffee.

Panama is the southernmost country in Central America, bordering Colombia and Costa Rica, connecting the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Its famous engineering project, the Panama Canal, connects the two oceans and is known as the "Bridge of the World." The entire territory of Panama has varied terrain with numerous valleys and rivers. Besides the coastal plains in the north and south, most areas are mountainous, and there are also volcanoes that provide nutrients for coffee.

Panama Canal

Panama is near the equator and has a tropical marine climate with humid days and cool nights. The average annual temperature is 23-27°C. The year is divided into dry and rainy seasons, with an average annual precipitation of 1500-2500 millimeters. These uniquely blessed conditions provide an excellent growing environment for coffee.

Geisha coffee is particularly picky about its growing environment, requiring high altitude, cloud shade, fertile soil, and sufficient accumulated temperature. Aurora Coffee Estate is located in the northwestern corner of Chiriqui Province, Panama, with an average altitude of 1625 meters, an average annual temperature between 16°C and 25°C, and an average rainfall of approximately 3500 millimeters. The plantation uses semi-shade cultivation, with tree species all from local varieties, some of which are high-altitude Hass avocado trees. It is precisely because of this unique environment and climate that the king of coffees can be cultivated.

The golden-brown coffee beans are smooth and fresh, emitting a charming natural aroma. When the first sip of coffee slides down my throat, the taste is extremely smooth without any bitterness. Instead, it has a rich fruity flavor, tasting more like fruit tea. Paired with some vanilla cookies, you'll discover that there are such magical products in the world.

Knowledge Point:

Panama's Hacienda La Esmeralda separated it from other varieties and won the national coffee competition championship. This is how Geisha officially entered everyone's sight.
