Within the Arabica species, there are many different varieties/bean types. These varieties all possess the typical characteristics of Arabica, such as being tetraploid plants with 44 chromosomes; being self-pollinating plants; and being dicotyledonous plants. However, they differ in details such as leaf shape and size, flower shape, and fruit color and size.

In the 1960s, Villa Sarchi was first discovered in Costa Rica and became a unique variety of the country. Its flavor profile is transparent and clear, characterized by sweet and gentle acidity with a very smooth mouthfeel. Proper control of bitterness can make the taste even milder.

This small plant variety is a genetic mutation of Bourbon, first discovered in Costa Rica in the city of Sarchi. Its branches form steep angles with the trunk, and among the ordinary green leaves, its foliage displays an interesting bronze color. Villa Sarchi exhibits excellent fruit flavors. Additionally, it has high yield and reasonable disease resistance.

Villa Sarchi: A Bourbon variant first discovered in Costa Rica in the 1960s, it has frequently appeared on cupping excellence lists in recent years, making it a dark horse that has come from behind. This variety is a rare cultivar bred through cross-pollination with Red Bourbon trees. It resists strong winds, prefers high-altitude environments, and possesses excellent acidity with various complex fruit aromas. It has high sweetness, bright and delicate citrus acidity with deeper notes of raisin and nutty aromas, offering high complexity and excellent balance.

Also a dwarf Bourbon variety, discovered in the village of Sarchi in the western valleys of Costa Rica, it is suitable for high-altitude organic cultivation, with lively fruit acidity and distinct caramel flavors.
