FrontStreet Coffee - Blue Mountain Coffee Introduction
First, let's understand what Blue Mountain Coffee is. The Blue Mountains are located in the eastern part of Jamaica Island, with the highest peak reaching an altitude of 2,256 meters, making it the highest peak in the Caribbean region and a famous tourist destination. The area lies within the coffee belt, boasting fertile volcanic soil, fresh air free from pollution, and a humid climate with year-round fog and rainfall, averaging 1,980 millimeters of precipitation annually and temperatures around 27 degrees Celsius. These climate conditions have created the world-renowned Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee, as well as the world's highest-priced coffee.
All their coffee trees grow on rugged mountain slopes, making the harvesting process extremely difficult. Only skilled local women workers are capable of performing this task. It's crucial to select coffee beans that are perfectly ripe during harvest; underripe or overripe beans will affect the coffee quality. After harvesting, the coffee beans must be hulled the same day, then allowed to ferment for 12-18 hours. Following this, the beans undergo washing and sorting. The next step is drying, which must be done on concrete floors or thick blankets until the coffee beans' moisture content drops to 12%-14%. They are then stored in special warehouses for storage. When needed, they are taken out for roasting and then ground into powder. These procedures must be strictly controlled, otherwise, the coffee quality will be affected.
Authentic Blue Mountain Coffee possesses all the characteristics of fine coffee - not only is it rich and mellow in flavor, but due to the perfect balance of coffee's sweetness, acidity, and bitterness, it has no bitter taste at all, with only moderate and perfect acidity. It is typically consumed as a single-origin coffee, but due to its extremely limited production and incredibly high price, what's generally available on the market is "Blue Mountain Style Coffee" made from coffees with similar flavor profiles.
As for the so-called "Blue Mountain Style," ha, that's completely a trap - a trap to deceive people. Because Blue Mountain Coffee production is very limited and it's a favorite among Chinese consumers, the price has been driven up by Chinese buyers, making it one of the most expensive coffees in the world.
If it were just expensive due to its rarity, I wouldn't call it a scam, but because of the limited production and high price, "Blue Mountain Style" emerged, which is somewhat questionable... The "style" means it has a bit of Blue Mountain flavor, but how much? Even having 10% Blue Mountain coffee beans would be considered conscientious, and there are many with none at all. Seeing this, everyone can understand that the Blue Mountain we usually drink for 30 or 50 yuan a cup is actually just Blue Mountain Style coffee. As for whether those so-called Blue Mountain coffees contain a few Blue Mountain beans or are simply made with inferior beans passed off as good ones depends on the establishment. Real Blue Mountain Coffee can sell for over a hundred yuan per cup.
Key Knowledge Point
Blue Mountain Coffee green beans are processed using only one method: washed processing. There are no natural or other processing methods.
