Mandheling coffee originates from Sumatra, Indonesia, in Asia, also known as "Sumatran Coffee." The main producing areas include Java Island, Sulawesi Island, and Sumatra Island, with 90% being Robusta varieties.

Among these, the "Mandheling" produced in Sumatra Island is the most famous. The finest traditional Arabica coffee produced in northern Sumatra is marketed under the names Lintong and Mandheling.

Kono Pour-Over Mandheling

Dripper: Kono

Water Temperature: 88°C

Grind Size: BG-6W

Brewing Method: Water-to-coffee ratio 1:15, using 15g of coffee. First infusion with 25g of water for a 25-second pre-infusion. Second infusion to 120g of water, then pause. Wait until the water level in the coffee bed drops to halfway, then continue infusing slowly until reaching 225g of water. Extraction time approximately 1:59.

Analysis: Using a three-stage brewing method to clearly distinguish the flavors in the front, middle, and back segments of the coffee. Because V60 has many ribs and drains quickly, pausing the water flow can extend the extraction time, better extracting the nutty and chocolate flavors in the later segments.

Flavor Profile: Multi-layered, overall clean, relatively light mouthfeel, persistent caramel sweetness in the aftertaste, with a hint of bitterness.

Knowledge Point: Mandheling is neither an Indonesian place name, production area name, port name, nor coffee variety name. Instead, it is a phonetic misinterpretation of the Mandailing people who originally inhabited Sumatra.
