Colombia is located in the northwest of South America, bordered by the Caribbean Sea to the north, Venezuela to the east, Brazil to the southeast, Ecuador to the south, and Panama to the northwest. All these surrounding countries are coffee-producing nations. Colombian coffee is world-renowned for its premium quality, smooth taste, and high-grade character.
All of this is possible because Colombia's suitable climate provides a true "natural pasture" for coffee, and all cultivated coffee varieties are primarily high-quality Arabica species. Colombia's coffee trees are mainly cultivated in the Andes Mountains. Colombia has three Cordillera mountain ranges running north-south, extending directly into the Andes. Coffee is planted along the highlands of these mountain ranges, and the mountain terraces provide diverse climates, allowing coffee to be harvested year-round.
Colombian Huila is located in the southwest of Colombia and is one of the main coffee cultivation areas. Because famous coffee cultivation sites are spread throughout the Huila region, the names of various small areas have become brand names and are circulated in the market. Coffee from the Huila region, with its nutty, chocolate, and caramel aromas and suitable acidity, is considered a premium specialty coffee.
Thanks to superior geographical and climate conditions, Colombian coffee has consistently maintained high quality. Typically, Colombian coffee beans without special market trademark names come from the National Federation of Colombia Coffee Growers, a very large federation spanning across Colombia. It has always been known for its strict quality control and active promotion.
In Colombia's coffee bean grading system, Supremo is the highest grade - the largest and fullest high-quality beans among Colombian coffee beans, with minimal defective beans and impurities. Excelso, on the other hand, consists of smaller, more common grade beans. Colombian coffee exhibits balanced flavor, rich acidity, unique flavor characteristics, relatively full body, and sometimes carries a hint of red wine charm and admirable fruit flavors.
