FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Arabica Varieties
The most well-known variety is Arabica, followed by Robusta, which should not be unfamiliar. The third variety, Liberica, is rarely heard of because its production is usually limited or its quality is not optimal, so it is often overlooked. Therefore, we won't discuss it in detail here.
Arabica coffee beans originate from Ethiopia and feature a delicate blend of jasmine, ripe melon, and various citrus fruit aromas. They are renowned for their exquisite balance between bitterness and sweetness.
Arabica coffee has very demanding requirements for growing conditions. Fertile soil, humid air, moderate sunlight, and shade are all essential factors for high quality. Due to weaker resistance to pests and diseases and lower annual yields, high-altitude areas are more suitable for cultivation. Arabica coffee beans grown at elevations above 1,500 meters produce the best quality. Arabica green beans have a dark, narrow appearance, and high-altitude Arabica, recognized as the highest quality, boasts rich aromas and complex layers.
Nature is truly magical - more demanding growing conditions naturally yield better quality fruits. This is perhaps nature's gift to us.
Arabica beans originally come from the Ethiopian highlands. After years of breeding and improvement, they now account for three-quarters of global coffee production. Among these coffee beans, only about 10% can be certified as specialty coffee. These Arabica beans have balanced flavors and aromas. The three famous coffee varieties - Hawaiian Kona, Jamaican Blue Mountain, and Yemen Mocha - all belong to this Arabica category.
Arabica beans from different growing regions have varying tastes and flavors. Our coffee, for example, combines beans from Colombia and Brazil to create a more balanced and harmonious taste profile, presenting a smoother and richer texture with intense aromas and an elegant aftertaste.
Knowledge Point
Arabica is one of the two very important varieties in the commercial coffee industry, with the other important variety being Robusta.
