FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Blue Mountain Coffee
Compagnia Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee - Known as the "caviar of coffee," Blue Mountain is one of the most appreciated qualities in the world. It grows in the Blue Mountain range in the eastern part of the island, whose peaks exceed 2200 meters, bathed in warm, humid winds. Introduced in 1725 by Sir Nicholas Lowes, the Governor of Jamaica, from Martinique, it grows on the highest mountain slopes. Neatly planted on fertile soil terraces, irrigated by pure water streams, and shaded by avocado and banana trees, it is considered the world's finest Arabica coffee. This coffee is characterized by its excellent aroma and perfect acidity, giving it an elegant taste.
Jamaica is one of the smaller coffee-producing countries in the world, harvesting approximately 40,000 bags - 60 kg/bag annually (Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee is actually shipped in 70kg wooden barrels - they are the last country to still use this traditional packaging method, but their production is measured by 60kg/bag, as that is the international standard for coffee production measurement).
Blue Mountain flavor coffee is actually what's known as "Blue Mountain Blend" and has no connection to Blue Mountain itself. Over 90% of Blue Mountain coffee is exported to Japan, so many "Blue Mountain coffees" sold in Chinese cafes are undoubtedly fake. This situation arose because early Blue Mountain coffee was rare and expensive, and operators created coffee with a taste close to Blue Mountain by using mixed beans with dark roasting based on this flavor profile.
The beans in "Blue Mountain Blend" are mixed with significant differences in shape, making them relatively easy to identify. Also, don't believe in "premium Blue Mountain" costing dozens of yuan per pound or "Blue Mountain coffee" costing around thirty yuan per cup. The landed price of Blue Mountain coffee generally requires 1000 yuan per kilogram, and after adding various profit margins, the price is undoubtedly very expensive.
Knowledge Point: Due to the great reputation of Jamaica Blue Mountain, counterfeit Blue Mountain-style coffee has appeared on the market, or simply called "Blue Mountain coffee."
