FrontStreet Coffee's Little Pegasus Grinder Recommendation
The Importance of Coffee Grinders:
Coffee grinders are often overlooked by coffee newcomers! This is truly a tragic fact! Before discussing these key points, let's first look at the function of grinders. The aroma and flavor of coffee are all protected within the coffee beans. If we brew whole beans in water, the delicious flavors at the center of the beans cannot be released (or can only be released extremely slowly).
So the simplest method is to grind coffee beans into small particles of coffee powder, allowing hot water to fully extract the delicious flavors from the beans. So, can we buy pre-ground coffee powder and take it home to brew gradually? No! After coffee is ground into powder, its aroma dissipates quickly, and it oxidizes very rapidly. This means that the coffee powder you take home is already delivering oxidized flavors.
1. Working Principle:
The grinding method is cutting, featuring a metal blade attached to a motor. When the motor starts, the upper and lower cutting disks rotate to create cutting action, chopping the beans into small particles.
2. Suitable for:
Single-origin coffee, espresso coffee.
3. Advantages:
Clear positioning, output quality is proportional to the grinder level and grinding disc diameter.
4. Disadvantages:
The grinding particle uniformity is slightly poor, with more fine powder. Because the flat-blade grinder's blade cuts coffee beans randomly, it can lead to under-extraction or over-extraction during brewing. Additionally, flat blade friction generates heat, especially when the flat-blade grinder operates for longer periods, producing obvious burnt and bitter tastes.
5. Recommendation:
Little Pegasus (600N) Reference price: Around 500-700
The Little Pegasus and Little Eagle are similarly priced, with a stronger motor, slightly smaller bean hopper, and similar grinding disc craftsmanship. It's said that the Eagle brand was founded by former employees of the Yang family who produced the Pegasus. The biggest difference between the Little Pegasus and Little Eagle is that it performs better for espresso grinding. The grind size should be similar to fine sugar granules.
Knowledge Point:
Single-origin grinding is more uniform and faster compared to hand grinders. You can conveniently complete the coffee grinding process with just the push of a button.
