FrontStreet Coffee - Coffee Powder Storage and Brewing Introduction

Once coffee is ground into powder, its aroma begins to diminish, and its flavor starts to deteriorate. The optimal tasting period for ground coffee is best not to exceed 30 days. Since coffee powder is highly susceptible to moisture and absorbing odors, it's best to store it in sealed bags. If you don't have sealed bags, use airtight containers.

Additionally, absolutely never store it in the refrigerator! Storing it in a cool, dark place is sufficient.

Boiling will make coffee bitter, so it's strongly recommended not to place coffee directly on fire for brewing. Instead, brew it at a temperature between 90-96°C (195-205°F).

Determine the amount of coffee based on your needs. Brewed coffee should be consumed in one sitting and should not be reheated after brewing, as this will compromise the taste. The ideal temperature to maintain coffee's best flavor is 86°C (185°F).

Water quality is one of the important factors affecting coffee taste. Fresh water should be used for brewing, with each cup containing approximately 98% water. If your water has an unusual taste, consider using activated carbon filtration.

Determine the amount of coffee powder based on your coffee needs each time. Do not reuse ground coffee, as the residue in used coffee powder contains the more bitter components of coffee.

The correct grind size should be determined according to the characteristics of the coffee beans. Grinding too finely will cause over-extraction, producing bitterness or potentially clogging brewing equipment; insufficient grinding will result in weak, watery coffee. If using drip brewing equipment, the appropriate grind size should complete the dripping process within 2-4 minutes.

It's recommended to use 10 grams of ground coffee per 180 milliliters (6 ounces) of water. Regardless of how much coffee you brew, maintain the same ratio.

For those interested, you can also purchase pour-over coffee equipment, allowing you to enjoy coffee anytime, anywhere, whether at home or in the office.

Knowledge Expansion

The aroma of coffee beans begins to volatilize when ground into powder, which is why it's recommended to purchase coffee beans that can be stored for longer periods.
