The coffee-producing regions of the Americas refer to Central and South America. Areas north of Mexico generally do not produce coffee beans. The coffee-producing regions of the Americas are mainly distributed between the Tropic of Cancer and the equator. Several countries in Central America are essentially coffee-producing nations. Brazil, located in South America, is the world's largest coffee-producing country.
American coffee is the most balanced among the world's three major coffee-producing regions. Various flavors develop in a balanced manner without competing with each other, yet each possesses distinct characteristics. Therefore, any coffee flavor you desire can be found in American beans, making them a symbol of perfect balance in the eyes of many gourmands.
In addition to differences in coffee varieties, American beans are typically processed using the washed method, and the process is extremely meticulous. As a result, the coffee beans are noticeably larger than African beans and much more uniform in size. There are also fewer foreign objects mixed in with the raw beans.
Colombia provides 15% of the world's coffee production and is the world's third-largest coffee-producing region (the largest producer of Arabica coffee). The country produces high-quality Arabica coffee, with beans that are mild and balanced.
In 2011, UNESCO listed Colombia's coffee cultural landscape as a World Heritage Site. In 2007, the European Union also designated Colombia as a protected coffee origin. Colombia began growing commercial coffee in the early 19th century, and many believe Colombian coffee has fruity flavors.
Colombia's famous Arabica coffee beans originate from Ethiopia. Due to their weaker resistance to pests and diseases, they are mostly grown in high-altitude regions above 1,300 meters. Cultivated in refined volcanic ash soil, they are premium coffee beans with first-class flavor and aroma. Located in the tropics, Colombia's climate varies by terrain. The southern part of the eastern plains and the Pacific coast have a tropical rainforest climate, mountains at 1,000-2,000 meters altitude have a subtropical climate, and the northwest region has a tropical savanna climate.
Colombia is the world's largest producer of washed Arabica, the second-largest Arabica producer, and the third-largest coffee-producing country. Its annual production is approximately one-third of Brazil's, accounting for 12% of the world's total production, second only to Brazil and Vietnam. However, compared to these two countries, Colombia almost exclusively grows high-end Arabica coffee beans: Bourbon, Caturra, and Catuai.
Knowledge Extension: Colombian coffee cultivation is distributed along the Andes Mountains, from south to north, roughly divided into northern, central, and southern producing regions. Among these, the central region has two main and secondary production seasons, while the northern and southern regions have one production season each.
