FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Three Major Coffee Growing Regions
Brazil
The largest coffee producing region, with various grades and types of coffee accounting for one-third of global consumption, occupies a significant position in the global coffee trading market. Although Brazil faces natural disasters several times higher than other regions, its plantable area is sufficient to compensate. There are many types of coffee here, but its industrial policy focuses on quantity and affordability, so premium quality coffee is not abundant. However, it serves as an excellent choice for blending with other coffees.
The most famous among them is Santos coffee, which has a mellow and neutral taste. It can be brewed directly or mixed with other types of coffee beans to create blended coffee, making it another excellent choice. Other types of Brazilian coffee such as Rio, Paraná, etc., require less care and can be produced in large quantities. Although their flavor is relatively coarse, they remain a cost-effective coffee option.
Colombia
This second-largest coffee industrial country, with production second only to Brazil, is also a leader among the Colombian Mild group. More famous producing regions include "Medellín," "Manizales," "Bogotá," "Armenia," etc.
The coffee beans cultivated here are all Arabica, with quite rich flavor, and stable quality and price. The roasted coffee beans appear larger and more beautiful. Production ranges from low-grade to high-grade products, among which some are rare treasures in the world, with mellow flavors that are truly unforgettable.
Vietnam
Vietnam is also one of the world's top coffee producing countries. Currently, the vast majority of coffee trees in Vietnam are of the Robusta variety. This is because the leaf rust epidemic that appeared in the mid-19th century destroyed Vietnam's Arabica coffee trees, and they were replaced with Robusta coffee trees that are resistant to leaf rust disease. Robusta coffee beans have a unique aroma and bitterness, and their caffeine content is higher than Arabica. Due to their higher extraction ratio, they are often used to make instant coffee, canned coffee, or mixed into three-in-one coffee products. In recent years, India has also started planting Arabica coffee trees and is dedicating itself to the coffee production industry, but it has not yet made any progress in the specialty coffee market. The Vietnamese coffee we often hear about in conversation sometimes refers to the ice drip brewing method, which is different from the coffee bean varieties mentioned here, so don't confuse the two.
Knowledge Expansion
The main coffee bean producing regions in Indonesia are on the three islands of Java, Sumatra, and Sulawesi, all of which have volcanic terrain.
