In 1995, Ethiopia redrew its regional boundaries. The Yirgacheffe we know today was placed within the Gedeo Zone in the new SNNPR.

Yirgacheffe now sits in the central part of Gedeo, and Kochere lies about 25 miles north of the famous town of Yirgacheffe. Production is mainly small local farmers sending their lots to cooperatives for unified processing. For a long time it has been praised as one of the best origins for coffee in southern Ethiopia.

Kochere Region Introduction

Kochere has abundant water and complete washing equipment, along with very high altitude, iron-rich composition, and acidic soil. These conditions have consistently allowed washed processing in the region to perform at a high level, earning praise for the distinctive floral and fruity flavors that define Yirgacheffe. Although washed quality here is high, others have experimented too. Recently FrontStreet Coffee found a white honey processed bean that surprised us. While red honey processed Red Cherry exists, a white honey processed Kochere made us want to try it as well.
