FrontStreet Coffee - Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Worka Wuri Natural Process Brewing Guide

The Worka Wuri Processing Station is located in the most premium area of the entire Yirgacheffe region, which is the Gedeb area (if classified by ECX region, it belongs to Kochere).

Gedeb is situated in the southeastern corner of Yirgacheffe. From Yirgacheffe town, heading south for about 50 kilometers, the elevation rises from 1,850m in Yirgacheffe town to 2,030 meters at the processing station, making it the highest area in the entire Yirgacheffe region.

Coffee professionals often refer to this area as Gedeb, mainly because the largest town center in this region is named Gedeb. Arriving here means you've reached the deepest part of the region. Continuing for less than ten minutes, you'll arrive at Worka, where the beloved Worka Cooperative is located nearby. Worka village is one of the 16 villages (Kebele) of Gedeb. More precisely, the Worka Wuri Processing Station is located in an area locally known as Worka-Sakaro.

The origin of the Worka-Sakaro village name is quite interesting. During the era when Haile Selassie was emperor, an official visited the area for inspection and discovered that the people in this region were exceptionally warm and hospitable, so he named the area "Worik," meaning gold, which in the local indigenous Gedeo language is "Worka." Additionally, there is a huge sacred tree called "Sakaro" in the area, so later generations used the most distinctive and storied "Worka" and "Sakaro" as the place name, making it quite representative.

The Worka Wuri Processing Station is one of two existing processing stations in Worka village, established in 2012. "Wuri" means "high altitude" in the local indigenous Gedeo language. As the name suggests, it reflects its excellent geographical location - not only is it located in the most premium area of Yirgacheffe, but its inherent high-altitude advantage creates a unique and exceptional flavor profile.

Knowledge Bonus:

Actually, for properly roasted coffee, it can be stored for two to three months while still maintaining excellent flavor condition. The natural degassing time inside the coffee beans can also last for over forty days. During this time, we don't need to be too concerned about changes in the coffee's flavor.
