FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Costa Rica Mirazu Geisha

Costa Rica has a long history of coffee cultivation and is renowned as one of the world's finest coffee producing regions. In recent years, the rise of specialty coffee has led to increased local coffee sales, particularly in regions such as Tarrazu and Tres Rios. The harvest season runs from November to March of the following year, with major coffee growing areas located in high-altitude volcanic soils that are extremely fertile. Costa Rican coffee enjoys high acclaim in the specialty coffee world, characterized by its clean, balanced flavor profile, bright and clear fruit acidity, medium body, and refreshing sweetness that is not overwhelming.

Originally, Geisha trees were planted in a small area within Panama's Hacienda La Esmeralda, where they served as windbreaks due to their tall height.

It was the estate owner's son, in preparation for the annual Best of Panama coffee competition, who searched through all coffee varieties on the estate for testing. He isolated this particular variety with its special fruity and floral flavors, giving Geisha its opportunity to shine. Subsequently, it participated in various world coffee competitions, winning a total of eleven championships.

Geisha boasts rich sweetness, an exceptionally clean cup profile, and abundant aromas that extend from berries and citrus to mango, papaya, and peach. A very distinct bergamot-like aftertaste is also one of its typical cupping characteristics.

To date, Geisha remains the champion among coffee varieties.
