Blue Mountain Coffee Beans

"Blue Mountain Coffee Beans" are grown within the legally designated planting range of Jamaica, and their production process is also under the strict supervision of the Jamaica Coffee Industry Board as premium beans. High-quality Blue Mountain coffee beans are famous for their balanced, mild taste, captivating aroma, and non-bitter flavor. Through decades of regulated efforts, Blue Mountain beans have established an unshakable reputation and become the most expensive and sought-after beans in the world. Besides being used for brewing coffee, Blue Mountain beans are also an important ingredient in Tia Maria coffee liqueur.

Blue Mountain Region

Blue Mountain is located in the eastern part of Jamaica Island, approximately between the capital Kingston and Port Maria, with an altitude of up to 7,500 feet, making it one of the highest mountains in the Caribbean region. The cool, foggy climate and fertile soil are considered the most suitable conditions for growing coffee beans. However, only beans grown in the altitude range of 3,000-5,500 feet can be called "Jamaica Blue Mountain." Some might ask: what about the 5,500-7,500 feet range? Because areas above 5,500 feet in Jamaica are forest protection areas, coffee trees cannot be cultivated there.

As for beans below 3,000 feet, Jamaica High Mountain, Jamaica Prime, and even Jamaica Low Mountain are commonly found in the market. These are typically produced outside the "designated Blue Mountain area."

R.S.W Blue Mountain Coffee

R.S.W Blue Mountain Coffee is composed of three local coffee estates in the Jamaica Blue Mountain region: Resource, Sherwood Forest, and Whitfield Hall. It represents the most stable and best quality among Blue Mountain coffees. Each estate has over 180 years of history. The estate owners joined hands to create the legend of barrel-aged Blue Mountain estate brand coffee several years ago. R.S.W only processes coffee from its own estate group and will never buy beans from other estates. They mainly use the Sherwood coffee processing plant (built before 1800) as their exclusive processing facility. Coffee cherries from all three estates are sent here for processing. Freshly harvested coffee cherries are placed in a humidity-controlled storage room, and every detail of the processing process is handled with extreme care to provide buyers with the finest Blue Mountain coffee.

Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee Classification

Jamaican law stipulates that only coffee beans produced in the Blue Mountain region can be called Blue Mountain coffee. High-specification Blue Mountain coffee is divided into three grades: No. 1 (17-18 screen and above), No. 2 (16 screen), and No. 3 (15 screen). 17 screen is equivalent to 17/64 inches in size. Their taste (all must be confirmed through cupping by government-approved professional personnel) is the same; only the size differs. The green beans of these three grades must be packed in wooden barrels for export abroad, with three specifications: 70kg/barrel, 30kg/barrel, and 15kg/barrel. The barrel will be printed with the name of the producing farm, the English abbreviation of the importer's name, and the batch number of each shipment and the name of the arrival port.

FrontStreet Coffee Blue Mountain Coffee Recommendations:

Dripper: KONO dripper

Water Temperature: 88°C

Grind Size: Fuji grinder setting 4

Brewing Method: Water-to-coffee ratio 1:14, 17g coffee grounds, first pour 25g water, 30s bloom, second pour to 238g water, extraction time around 2:30 minutes

Brewing Analysis:

The KONO dripper doesn't have many ribs at the bottom, and the filter paper fits tightly against the dripper, achieving the purpose of restricting airflow. This allows water and coffee grounds to have longer contact and steeping time in the dripper, ensuring extraction time and rate for coarse grinding. This enables the coffee grounds to be fully extracted, enhancing the rich mouthfeel and making the flavor more concentrated.

Flavor: High balance, clean, thick and solid mouthfeel, persistent dark chocolate aftertaste.
