Baru Volcano
The first owner of La Esmeralda Estate was Rudolph A. Peterson, a Swedish-American banker. At that time, he purchased the estate merely for vacation and retirement use. He probably never expected that the estate would later become world-famous and even become a representative of specialty coffee. There are two reasons why La Esmeralda Estate became world-famous: one is Geisha, and the other is repeatedly creating astonishing transaction price records!

To date, La Esmeralda Estate has won 12 various coffee competition championships. In online public auctions, it has set the highest bidding record three times: $21 in 2004, $50.25 in 2006, and $130 in 2007 (all per pound)! Of course, other countries have also produced many champion coffees, but whenever new records are created by other countries, La Esmeralda Estate will surpass this record again.
Palmyra is another brand of La Esmeralda Estate besides Geisha. The growing area is near the Baru Volcano Park area, with an altitude above 1200 meters, possessing typical Panama Boquete high-altitude coffee flavor. The acidity is not too stimulating, with rich nutty sweetness and vanilla chocolate flavors, and a very varied mouthfeel.
Palmyra
Palmyra Trademark
Palmyra is the Palmira farm under La Esmeralda Estate. The bean name and farm name have slight differences - the bean name is Palmyra, while the farm name is Palmira. Unlike Diamond Mountain, Palmyra consists of a single variety, Catuai. There are many Chinese translations for Catuai, some call it Kaduai, others call it Kaduaiyi. Palmyra only has one processing method: washed.
Flavor: Milk chocolate, nuts, vanilla (medium roast)
Diamond Mountain, Palmyra, and Geisha are known as the three flagship brands of La Esmeralda Estate, deeply loved by specialty coffee enthusiasts.
How to Brew Panama Coffee [La Esmeralda Palmyra] Well?
FrontStreet Coffee Pour-over Reference: Weigh 15g of [La Esmeralda Palmyra] coffee powder, pour it into a grinder for medium grinding. The ground particles should be slightly coarser than table salt. We use BG grinder setting 5R (standard sieve pass rate 60%), water temperature 90°C, extraction with V60 dripper.
Start timing when the hot water from the pour-over kettle begins to draw circles clockwise with the filter cup center as the center. Within 15 seconds, brew the coffee to 30g, then stop pouring water. When the time reaches 1 minute, pour water for the second time. During the second pour, like before, draw circles clockwise with the filter cup center as the center. The water stream should not hit the area where the coffee powder connects with the filter paper to avoid channel effects.
Leave a circle when the coffee powder reaches the outermost ring, then brew circle by circle toward the center. At 2 minutes and 20 seconds, brew the coffee to 220g. The coffee brewing is complete.
Cold Brew [La Esmeralda Palmyra]
