The Fascinating Story of Peru
When it comes to Peru, there are endless interesting stories to tell.
Ancient and mysterious indigenous legends, the city in the sky (Machu Picchu),
the enigmatic Nazca Lines,
the towering Andes mountain peaks that pierce the sky,
and South America's largest freshwater lake - Lake Titicaca
(at 3,812 meters above sea level, almost as high as Jade Mountain)...,
and let's not forget, Peru is also the homeland of llamas, which Taiwanese jokingly call "grass mud horses."
Peru is such a fascinating country,
and in the specialty coffee world, Peru is also one of the most interesting presences.
Peru's Specialty Coffee Excellence
When it comes to Peruvian coffee, the most immediate association is organic certified coffee. Peru's organic coffee,
besides its inherent cultural and natural conditions,
the government's strong support is also one of the important factors,
making it arguably the most important production region in the organic coffee market.
But perhaps because the stereotype of organic coffee is deeply rooted in people's minds,
the development of Peru's specialty coffee is easily overlooked. In fact,
Peru can be said to have crazy specialty coffee production conditions.
No joke, truly crazy.
Blessed by the Andes Mountains,
Peru's altitude and topographical diversity are truly unique.
Flying to the ancient capital of Cusco,
you can enjoy the view of Andes mountain peaks emerging from the clouds on the plane,
but in the capital Lima, just an hour's flight away,
is an unmistakable coastal city.
We traveled to Peru's eastern production region,
this time taking a night bus, departing at 8 PM,
arriving around 9 AM the next morning in sleeper accommodation. In just twelve hours,
we crossed from sea level over mountain roads at about 5,000 meters altitude,
then descended to about 2,000 meters to the production region - an unforgettable experience.
In Peru, planting altitudes of 1,800 or even 2,000 meters are not uncommon.
Coffee-producing families, mainly composed of indigenous peoples who prefer to coexist harmoniously with nature,
use the most natural growing methods and preserve many old tree varieties.
