AeroPress Coffee Brewing Guide
The most common brewing method for specialty coffee is pour-over, with very few people using less popular brewing methods, perhaps because they are time-consuming or troublesome to prepare. Today, FrontStreet Coffee wants to share coffee making using a time-tested coffee device - the AeroPress. This is a highly-utilized coffee device with an unforgettable syringe-style brewing method that produces uniquely distinctive coffee. Let's begin today's brewing demonstration.
AeroPress Principle and Usage
The principle and usage of AeroPress coffee are very simple: a hard plastic tube, a filter cap, and a rubber seal. The basic kit also includes a stirrer, a spoon, and enough filter paper for one year, plus a funnel to pour coffee grounds into the plastic tube.
FrontStreet Coffee's AeroPress Brewing Guide
Brewing approach: Use the AeroPress to extract high-concentration, high-extraction-rate coffee liquid, then add hard ice cubes to cool and dilute it to suit your taste. Therefore, choose a relatively fine grind setting, higher water temperature, and coffee-to-water ratio.
For coffee beans, we selected FrontStreet Coffee's Yirgacheffe Washed Kochere, with detailed information as follows:
Region: Yirgacheffe Kochere
Altitude: 1800-2200m
Variety: Heirloom
Processing: Washed
Flavor Notes: Lemon, Black Tea, Orange Blossom, Fruity Sweetness
Brewing Parameters: Coffee Dose: 20g, Coffee-to-Water Ratio: 1:9, Grind Size: Espresso Grind, Water Temperature: 92°C, Time: 1 minute 30 seconds
Brewing Process
1. Take out the filter cap, attach a dedicated AeroPress filter paper, and wet it with hot water to make the filter paper adhere tightly to the filter cap.
2. Place the AeroPress upside down, pour 20g of ground coffee into the chamber, then pour 180g of 92°C hot water and start timing.
3. After pouring the water, stir gently with the stirrer for 50 seconds. Cover with the filter cap and press upward to remove excess air.
4. Flip the AeroPress with the filter paper and cap facing down, coffee grounds facing up, and press downward to extract. Complete the extraction in approximately 30 seconds. At this point, we have about 150ml of high-concentration coffee liquid. Total extraction time is 1 minute 30 seconds.
5. Pour the coffee liquid over 120g of hard ice cubes to cool and dilute the coffee. Ice cubes can be adjusted according to personal taste.
6. Shake gently to ensure consistent concentration and temperature throughout the cup. Then it's ready to enjoy!
Tasting Notes
After ice dilution, you can experience the freshness of iced lemon, citrus acidity, a clean mouthfeel, and a sweet black tea sensation in the mid-palate - very comforting.
