The Excellence of Yunnan Coffee Beans
Yunnan coffee beans are excellent because the entire region grows high-quality Arabica coffee varieties, without planting the high-yield but poor-tasting Robusta varieties. This is quite remarkable, making it one of the few countries that exclusively plant 100% Arabica coffee. This demonstrates that Yunnan coffee is not focused on quantity over quality. Yunnan coffee is grown at high altitudes, grows slowly, and achieves high maturity, making it suitable for dark roasting for espresso, which is another indicator of high quality. After deep roasting (at the beginning or middle of second crack), Yunnan's high-quality specialty beans emit a rich chocolate-like mellow aroma, making them one of the best blending beans for espresso. Light-roasted specialty beans, on the other hand, have a bright lemon-like fruit acidity, making them a favorite among women who love acidity. The excellence of Yunnan coffee still awaits further exploration and development.
Everything has two sides, and Yunnan coffee also has its shortcomings, which is where different people have different opinions. Most of southern Yunnan belongs to a subtropical climate, situated right on the world's most recognized coffee growing belt, making it very suitable for coffee cultivation. Due to the mountainous terrain in these areas, the planting slopes are steep, with large temperature differences between day and night, and abundant sunlight and rainfall, which are also very suitable for coffee growth.
Yunnan Coffee Bean Processing Methods
Yunnan coffee typically uses washed processing methods, which produce beans with uniform color, few defective beans, and high quality.
It can be said that Yunnan coffee has the advantages of favorable timing and geography in terms of hardware, but whether it produces good coffee depends on the growers' understanding of coffee, coffee garden management, and whether all aspects are conducted in ways that match improving coffee quality. Whether quality takes priority over quantity has a huge impact on the final result. Yunnan's coffee industry development has only been around 30 years, and there are still many areas that need improvement.
Coffee Tasting Notes
"First, there's a feeling of being momentarily numbed by a jolt of happiness, and only after three seconds do you feel the rich, full, and balanced taste, with a pleasant acidity emerging from under the tongue. The reddish-brown crema flows out smoothly, starting with a full cup, and stabilizes at over a centimeter. Moving the cup away, the coffee continues to flow, with foam and colored liquid continuing to flow for a long time—extremely rich content."
"We found that both City and Full-City roasts have strong caramel aromas and almond-like nutty fragrances. From the aroma when grinding through brewing, and continuing from the first sip to the aftertaste, it's consistent throughout. At the City roast level, you can feel relatively soft fruit acidity and a subtle sweetness. In summary, this batch of Bourbon shows us the bright prospects of China's coffee cultivation field, and we hope to drink more and more good Made in China beans in the near future."
China's Coffee Industry Outlook
China's annual coffee production will double, and if market demand continues to increase and coffee can bring profits to growers, China's coffee production will continue to increase. The person in charge stated that China's annual coffee bean production is nearly 1.3 million bags (60 kg per bag), a figure close to Nicaragua's 2014-2015 coffee production forecast. By 2020, China's coffee production will double, possibly approaching the production levels of Mexico and Guatemala. Currently, global traditional coffee-producing regions are facing supply challenges due to pests, diseases, and drought. They have chosen Yunnan and are accelerating their local布局 because they are optimistic that Yunnan coffee has the potential to become one of the world's important production regions. According to reports from the China United Business News, China's coffee market is expected to reach 300 billion yuan by 2020.
