In the past century, coffee has saved Guatemala's economy. It is estimated that there are currently about 125,000 producers locally, making it the main export item, accounting for 40% of exported agricultural products. As many as 20 of the 22 provinces are engaged in coffee cultivation, with almost all regions growing coffee beans. 98% are shade-grown, almost exclusively Arabica beans. The main sub-varieties include Bourbon, Tipica, Caturra, Catuaí, Pache, and Pacamara.

Let's learn more about Guatemala. With high altitude and 300 different microclimates, combined with stable rainfall and fertile soil rich in minerals, it is the most ideal for coffee cultivation among Central American countries. Since the early 1990s, Anacafé pioneered the division of 8 different regions that produce high mountain hard beans (S.H.B) based on coffee characteristics, growing climate, soil quality, and altitude: the Acatenango valley, Antigua, Atitlán, Cobán, the Fraijanes plateau, Huehuetenango, Nuevo Oriente, and San Marcos volcanic region. The main harvest season is from December to March of the following year. Higher altitude regions like Huehuetenango can harvest until April. Once harvesting is complete and processing is done, shipments are made, usually during the April-July period.

Finca Ceylan was purchased by the Echeverria family in the Atitlan region in 1870. Coffee beans grow on volcanic gravel soil and are cultivated alongside agricultural products such as melons and pineapples. This is a requirement for Rainforest Alliance certified beans. The farm is located at approximately 1,000-1,500 meters altitude and belongs to the Typica variety. PS: Rainforest Alliance certified beans (within the growing area, must be intercropped with multiple agricultural products). The local average temperature is about 20 degrees Celsius. Pure water washing is used to wash the raw beans. Wastewater is collected and settled, and the residue is used as natural fertilizer, establishing a self-sufficient system that avoids polluting river basins. The surrounding rivers and forest lands are preserved as important ecosystems.

Finca Ceylan only employs local residents. The farm owner provides housing construction for employees, clean drinking water supply, and builds schools to provide education for employees' children, forming a utopia.
