Introduction to Mandheling Coffee Beans

What is Mandheling coffee? Is it Mandheling plus something equals Mandheling? I heard that Mandheling coffee tastes more sour. I don't know which coffee beans are more suitable for brewing with a moka pot. I've had Mandheling without sugar and it wasn't bitter. Usually only one person drinks it, so I want to learn how to brew it myself.

Update: So what should be the ratio of Mandheling to Brazil?

Update 2: Also, what does 7 to 3 mean? I had Mandheling at a friend's place but didn't dare to ask them, so I want to ask about the ratio for one person?

Mandheling

It is darker roasted Mandheling plus medium roasted Brazil.

There are many types of Mandheling, because Mandheling has three types:

1. Indonesia Golden Mandheling

2. Indonesia Mandheling Grade-1

3. Indonesia Tawain

There are also many Brazil varieties:

1. Brazil Cerrado

2. Brazil Santos

Single Origin Coffee Beans

None of them are not sour when drunk. It's just that the degree of sourness varies.

Everyone's perception of sourness is also different.

Brewing with a Moka Pot

I suggest finding the taste you prefer.

My personal classification:

Colombia > Honduras > Blue Mountain > Brazil > Kenya > Ethiopian Yirgacheffe > Kona

Super sour - Normal sour - Medium

Mocha > Northern Italian blend > Mandheling > Mandheling > Southern Italian blend > French roast type

Medium - Normal bitter - Super bitter

Start with blended beans first. Let yourself learn and feel whether you prefer more sour or more bitter. The joy of brewing your own coffee is finding your favorite coffee this way.

FrontStreet Coffee Recommendation

If a Mandheling-and-Brazil blend is what you're after, it helps to know the two ends of the spectrum first. On the Mandheling side, FrontStreet PWN Golden Mandheling from Sumatra is the top of the range, screened by density, size, shape, and color and hand-sorted three times for a clean, sweet, full-bodied cup; on the Brazil side, FrontStreet Brazil Cerrado Red Bourbon is medium roasted and round rather than tart, with creamy peanut, toast, caramel, and hazelnut, making it a classic single-origin base.

If you want to explore the brighter end instead, the Yirgacheffe region offers the opposite character. FrontStreet Washed Yirgacheffe, a classic everyday lot, is known for white jasmine, bright citrus and lemon acidity, and a tea-like body, and it makes an affordable first specialty bean. FrontStreet Natural Red Cherry uses only fully ripe red cherries, sun-dried on raised beds, and brings citrus acidity, a berry-juice mouthfeel, honeyed sweetness, and creamy smoothness. When blending or brewing, a 7-to-3 ratio simply means seven parts of the dominant bean to three of the supporting one; start there, then adjust toward whichever flavor you want to lead.
