Asian coffee beans generally contain rich herbal notes, which we often describe as having earthy or terrestrial aromas. Their body is relatively heavy, making it easy to perceive their rich texture, while the acidity is relatively low and not very pronounced.

According to the Financial Daily, China is transforming from a traditional tea-growing nation into a major Asian coffee bean producer, cultivating high-quality small-fruited coffee (Arabica coffee). This has attracted international coffee groups and commodity traders to establish bases in Yunnan Province to facilitate coffee bean exports.

For example, the well-known multinational coffee trader Volcafe has been continuously exporting Chinese-produced Arabica coffee beans over the past 10 years, and plans to establish a joint venture with Yunnan Simao Arabica Star Coffee. Volcafe will become the first international coffee trader to have a base in China.

Industry insiders say that this coffee grown in Yunnan, China, has very similar taste and flavor to coffee beans from Honduras and Guatemala. The quality of Yunnan Arabica beans has reached the level of Central American coffee.

Since the income of farmers who grow coffee is double that of tea farmers who cultivate the same area, more and more Yunnan tea farmers are turning to coffee cultivation.

China's coffee consumption is growing rapidly at an annual rate of 15%, far higher than the global coffee consumption growth rate of 2%. International commodity traders and roasters have indicated that Yunnan coffee beans have become a main blending ingredient for European Arabica coffee.

China's coffee exports have grown steadily over the past 10 years, increasing from 137,000 bags (60kg per bag) in 1998 to 1.1 million bags in 2012. This not only equals Costa Rica's export volume but also reaches about 1/10 of Colombia's production.

Recommended Asian Coffee Bean Brands

FrontStreet Coffee's roasted Asian coffee beans—including Yunnan small-grain coffee, Yemen Mocha coffee beans, and Indonesian Mandheling coffee—offer excellent guarantees in both brand and quality. More importantly, they provide extremely high value for money. A half-pound (227g) package costs only around 80-90 yuan. Calculating at 15 grams per pour-over coffee, one package can make 15 cups of coffee, with each single-origin coffee costing only about 6 yuan. Compared to café prices that often reach dozens of yuan per cup, this represents exceptional value.
