Discovering Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee

You might not be familiar with Jamaica's location, but you've undoubtedly heard of the renowned Blue Mountain Coffee. Hailed as the supreme treasure among coffees, what makes Blue Mountain Coffee so special? Let's journey to Jamaica and explore the noble heritage of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee beans.

Jamaica: The Homeland of Blue Mountain Coffee

Jamaica, the birthplace of Blue Mountain Coffee, is an island nation located in the Caribbean Sea of Central America, with an area approximately one-third that of Taiwan. Blue Mountain, standing at 7,400 feet, is Jamaica's highest peak, about a 40-50 minute drive from the capital Kingston. This mysterious mountain is often shrouded in clouds and mist, and the highly esteemed Blue Mountain Coffee grows right here.

A Privileged Coffee Aristocrat

Blue Mountain Coffee's preciousness stems from its combination of superior genetic heritage and exceptional growing environment. From selection, cultivation, harvesting, processing and grading to packaging and export, Blue Mountain Coffee represents the epitome of coffee excellence.

There are three main coffee species worldwide: Arabica, Robusta, and Liberica. Blue Mountain Coffee comes from the finest Arabica variety.

However, coffee grown on Blue Mountain is not automatically "Blue Mountain Coffee." Only coffee grown at elevations between 1,500 and 5,000 feet qualifies to be called Blue Mountain Coffee. The cool mountain climate extends the coffee's maturation period; additionally, the temperature fluctuations between day and night slow the conversion of starch to sugar in coffee beans, thereby enhancing the coffee's rich flavor and aroma.

"Good coffee must be grown on slopes," says Cao Cunli, who owns a coffee farm on Jamaica's Blue Mountain. Slopes drain quickly, allowing coffee trees to continuously absorb fresh water.
