The Rise of Drip Coffee Bags: A Perfect Blend of Convenience and Quality

In recent years, with improving living standards, people have increasingly embraced ritualistic experiences, and drip coffee bags have become quite popular. FrontStreet Coffee believes there are two main reasons why so many people love drip coffee bags: first, they don't require the precise parameters and extensive equipment that pour-over coffee does, allowing you to easily obtain a cup of single-origin coffee; second, compared to instant coffee, drip coffee bags contain no sugar or creamer, making them a healthier choice.

What is Drip Coffee?

FrontStreet Coffee's drip coffee bags are made by grinding freshly roasted coffee beans to the appropriate coarseness, then packaging 10g portions into specialized drip filter bags with individual sealed packaging, sold in packs of 10. The advantage of drip coffee bags is that they maximize the retention of the coffee beans' original flavor while eliminating the complex brewing process, and the lightweight packaging makes them convenient to carry without taking up much space when traveling.

How Long Can Drip Coffee Be Stored?

The drip coffee bags sold by FrontStreet Coffee are made from coffee beans within 5 days of roasting. Although the drip coffee bags are individually packaged, the coffee beans' flavor dissipates more quickly after being ground into coffee particles. Even unopened, drip coffee bags will gradually become bland or even develop woody flavors over time. Therefore, FrontStreet Coffee recommends enjoying drip coffee bags within 20 days, with storage not exceeding 30 days.

Can Drip Coffee Bags Be Brewed a Second Time?

FrontStreet Coffee considers drip coffee to be a simplified version of pour-over coffee, so like pour-over coffee, drip coffee can only be brewed once! The reason is that only 30% of substances in coffee beans are water-soluble. When we complete the first brew, the soluble flavor compounds in the coffee have already been largely released. If you attempt a second brew, the coffee will have little flavor left to release and will instead release woody fibers (coffee grounds), resulting in a brew that tastes like wooden water.

Do Drip Coffee Bags Cause Cancer?

The drip filter bags used by FrontStreet Coffee are made from patented non-woven fabric composed of PP and PET/LDPE, not from paper with wet-strength agents as rumored online. So everyone can use them with confidence!

How to Drink Drip Coffee?

Put aside the fancy techniques—brewing drip coffee should be simple!

Drip coffee bags were created for simplicity and convenience, so we only need to pay attention to water temperature and amount! Water temperature is a crucial factor when brewing any form of coffee. Many people habitually use hot water directly from water dispensers for brewing, but the hot water from dispensers typically doesn't exceed 75°C. Brewing drip coffee at this temperature will result in a bland, flavorless brew. Therefore, FrontStreet Coffee suggests boiling water when brewing drip coffee, letting it stand for 2-3 minutes after boiling, and brewing when the water temperature reaches approximately 88-91°C.

Pouring hot water into drip coffee bag

The amount of water determines the coffee's concentration! Each FrontStreet Coffee drip coffee bag contains 10g of coffee, and we recommend using 130-150ml of water. The more water you add, the thinner and more flavorless the coffee becomes, so brewing with a coffee-to-water ratio of 1:13 to 1:15 is ideal.

How to Brew Drip Coffee?

① First, open the drip coffee bag and hang it over your cup.

② Take a kettle with 88-91°C water and pour the first segment of hot water into the center of the drip filter bag, filling it halfway, and wait for 15 seconds.

③ For the second segment, continue pouring hot water until the filter bag is 9/10 full, stopping at the small card strip at the top of the filter bag.

④ Wait until all the coffee liquid has flowed into the cup, then continue with the third segment of hot water, filling the filter bag to 9/10 full before stopping.

⑤ Wait until all the coffee liquid has flowed into the cup, then continue with the fourth segment of hot water until the filter bag is 9/10 full. Once the coffee liquid has flowed into the cup, you can remove the drip filter bag.

⑥ In total, there are four water pours: the first to halfway, and the remaining three each poured to 9/10 full after waiting for all the coffee liquid to flow through. Through numerous tests, FrontStreet Coffee has found that this pouring method typically results in a total water volume of around 150ml.
