The Legendary La Esmeralda Estate
In the world of coffee, Panama's La Esmeralda Estate has always been a legend. Its status in the coffee world is comparable to DRC Romanee-Conti in the wine world. The Geisha variety produced by this estate has unparalleled flavor and has won numerous world championships and awards, including this year's BOP (Best of Panama) Geisha Natural Dry Process championship, which was also won by La Esmeralda Estate.
For our important partnership in the Asian region, we must specially thank the estate owner Rachel. She cherishes our years of mutual support and friendship, even wearing our company's clothes to welcome us, and gifting us the latest season's Geisha coffee beans with a card welcoming us, making us feel especially warm and cared for.
Unique Terroir and Environment
La Esmeralda Estate's natural shade combined with the high altitude of 1,700 meters and cool, humid weather produces coffee with subtle citrus floral and fruit aromas, distinctly different from typical Panamanian coffee flavors. The varied microclimate and rigorous agricultural management create the unique flavor of Geisha coffee. Under these conditions, Geisha coffee has won the BOP cupping championship for seven consecutive years.
Prestigious Recognition
Panama's famous La Esmeralda Estate is located in Boquete, Panama's premium coffee-producing region. The area primarily grows Typica, Bourbon, Catuai, and Geisha varieties. Due to dedicated care for the natural environment and special management, it has received Rainforest Alliance certification. Although La Esmeralda Estate is world-renowned for its Geisha variety, its exceptional estate environment and green bean processing technology have earned widespread admiration for its coffee beans.
Panama's La Esmeralda Specialty is a rare award-winning estate auction bean that has set new records three times in online auctions: June 2004 at $21 per pound, May 2006 at $50.25 per pound, May 2007 at $130 per pound, and reaching $170 per pound in May 2010. Here are other award records from La Esmeralda Estate:
- Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) Cupping Championship (2007, 2006, 2005)
- Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) Coffee of the Year Second Place (2009, 2008)
- Best of Panama Champion (2010, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004)
- Rainforest Alliance Coffee Quality Cupping Championship (2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2004)
