Costa Rica Coffee Growing Regions

The seven main coffee growing regions are distributed from northwest to southeast, following the inland central highlands.

Costa Rica's volcanic terrain provides fertile volcanic ash, moderate and suitable temperatures, and stable abundant rainfall - all factors that contribute to coffee being one of Costa Rica's main agricultural products.

Since Costa Rica's coffee industry began to develop in the mid-18th century, it was the first country in Central America to introduce coffee cultivation. With this long history, coffee organizations have established complete systems from production to sales.

In terms of both quality and quantity, Costa Rica's coffee has consistently received worldwide recognition and has been rated as world-class high-quality coffee.

All its coffee beans are of the Arabica variety.

The flavor is pure, the aroma is pleasant, and it possesses an impeccable balance in both acidity and mouthfeel. It is suitable as single-origin coffee and can also be blended to create various coffee blends.

Costa Rica has a long history of coffee cultivation, but in the past 10+ years, the more innovative "dry" processing method has become popular. The new method collectively known as "honey processing" uses pulp removers to adjust the degree of pulp removal, producing "honey sensation" that ranges from light to intense (with colors from light to deep: white, yellow-red-white, yellow-red-black), each with varying acidity, complex aromas, and rich body - each with its own depth and merits.

Origin Cultivation History

Between 1950-1960, Costa Rica extensively planted the Villalobos variety in the Western Valley region. In the late 1960s, Dutch traders introduced Villalobos to Indonesia for cultivation.

Western Valley: High acidity, full-bodied beans, fragrant aroma. The acidity and body are unmatched by beans from other regions, but the overall balance is excellent with almond and peach notes.
