Carmo de Minas: Brazil's Premium Coffee Region

Every year in Brazil's Cup of Excellence (COE) competition, coffees from Minas Gerais state typically account for 70% of the awards. The southern production region of this state, Sul del Minas, is particularly outstanding. Within the entire Sul del Minas area, the small town of Carmo de Minas shows exceptional performance, primarily due to its natural geographical environment and climate. It's no exaggeration to describe it as God's best gift to this place.

The Pereira Family: Five Generations of Coffee Excellence

Jacques Pereira Carneiro and Luis Paulo, two cousins, can be considered the fifth-generation coffee soul figures representing Carmo de Minas, both belonging to the Pereira family. Luis Paulo serves as the president of the Brazil Specialty Coffee Association (BSCA). The Pereira family has a century-old history of coffee cultivation in Brazil, owning six famous estates including Fazenda Sertão, Fazenda Santa Lucia, Fazenda Santa Inês, and Fazenda Irmas Pereira.

Carmo de Minas: A Unique Coffee Paradise

The Carmo de Minas region boasts beautiful scenery in southern Minas Gerais (Sul de Minas), with unique geographical terrain. The soil is rich in minerals with volcanic rock components, features outstanding water quality with diverse natural sparkling mineral springs, and has even established a sparkling mineral spring park. The varied microclimate makes this region's high-quality coffee one of Brazil's important specialty bean production areas. It's also the small region that typically wins the most awards in Brazil's annual Cup of Excellence (COE) competition. Carmo de Minas also hosts the independent "Best of Carmo de Minas" coffee competition annually, which can be called Brazil's "CoE Top 10" showdown, as participants are almost all COE-winning estates, with many having achieved Top 10 or even championship honors. This demonstrates the important status of the Carmo de Minas production region.
