Appreciating Coffee from Various Growing Regions Around the World

Coffee trees belong to the Rubiaceae family in botanical classification. Native to the subtropical regions of Africa and some islands in southern Asia, coffee was introduced to Europe through Venetian merchants and Dutch maritime trade during the 16th and 17th centuries. Exported from Africa to countries worldwide, coffee trees are now cultivated in over 70 countries, primarily in the equatorial regions of the Americas, Southeast Asia, and India.

The classification of coffee trees is complex, with numerous species, varieties, and cultivars. Different varieties of coffee beans produce distinct flavors, but even trees of the same variety yield beans with unique characteristics due to varying soil, climate, and other environmental factors. Most susceptible to frost damage, coffee cultivation has evolved through centuries of agricultural techniques. Major coffee growing regions are centered around the equator, between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, where rainfall is abundant and temperatures range between 15-25°C. This region is known as the Coffee Belt or Coffee Zone.

Generally, coffee is commonly categorized by bean size into two main types: one is the highly prized Arabica, which are small berries with distinct and delicious acidity. The other is Robusta, which has larger beans, lower acidity, stronger bitterness, and higher caffeine content.

The world's coffee belt is divided into three major coffee growing regions: Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and Africa. We carefully select the finest beans from each region and use optimized roasting to fully bring out the inherent aromas and characteristics of the beans, creating coffee that not only delivers exceptional taste but also showcases the diverse fragrances and flavors that coffee has to offer.

When evaluating coffee beans, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the incredibly varied and charming characteristics that coffee can present.

Latin American Region - LATIN AMERICA

Latin America, where coffee trees were first planted in the 18th century, is nourished by the Amazon River - the world's largest river system by flow, drainage basin, number of tributaries, and length. This has fostered a rich ecological landscape of rainforests. With advantages including abundant sunshine, high mountains, fertile and moist soil, and diverse natural microenvironments, the region has now become the world's most important coffee growing area.

Latin American coffee is predominantly processed using the washed fermentation method. This meticulous processing ensures superior quality beans with low defect rates and large, intact beans.

Coffee from this region generally offers pleasant and delightful aromas with a very balanced flavor profile. Typically featuring cocoa-like special notes combined with refreshing, lively acidity, it provides a very appealing single-origin coffee experience.
