Guatemala Valmar Estate: Cobán Rainforest Heritage

Guatemala Valmar Estate comes from the Cobán Rainforest. The Cobán coffee growing region is located in Alta Verapaz province, 220 kilometers from Guatemala City. This region is renowned for its pristine natural environment and unique microclimate. The processing method involves semi-fermentation followed by sun-drying.

Perfect Terroir: Cloud Forest Paradise

Valmar Estate is situated in the Cobán region, a perfect growing area characterized by rugged mountain ranges, lush rainforests, and enchanting floral fragrances. The region boasts untouched natural environments and distinctive microclimates. The contrast between high-altitude mountain ranges and high-humidity tropical rainforests creates constant mist formed from dense cloud cover. Most coffee in the Cobán rainforest region is grown on gently rolling hills, harmoniously coexisting with rainforests composed of native tree species.

Century of Stewardship: Valmar Family Legacy

In this extraordinary rainforest region, the Valmar family has operated the estate for over a century, deeply committed to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices. They preserve more than half of the native forest, providing habitat for diverse wildlife. During production, the estate uses coffee pulp from processing as organic compost. Exceptional coffee quality remains one of the family's unwavering commitments—they meticulously oversee every step of the production process, from seed selection to final storage. Coffee is hand-picked and processed at an ecological wet mill that reduces water consumption, after which the water is recycled.

Excellence in Competition

Through Valmar Estate's dedicated management, not only is the integrity of the local rainforest ecosystem preserved, but the coffee beans produced also fully embody the classic characteristics of the Cobán region.

In 2012, Valmar Estate participated in the Cup of Excellence competition and achieved third place recognition.

Unique Processing Character

While the general perception suggests that semi-fermented processing yields coffee with cleanliness and flavor complexity that falls between washed and natural methods, Valmar's specialty lies in its exceptional cleanliness—comparable to fully washed coffee—while its flavor complexity rivals that of natural-processed beans.
